Bronte School

Headmasters Newsletter
13th June 2014
The week in France for 24 Bronte children proved a
tremendous success. A great variety of actvites was
the backdrop to a fne and full learning experience,
which I am sure will long be remembered by all who
took part. The staf at Chateau de la Baudonniere were
as helpful and energetc as ever, and special thanks go
to our own teachers who led the expediton, Mme
Baldacci, Mrs Prescot, Mrs Lippard and Miss Prescot.
That Bronte now has such a long and successful
relatonship with the Chateau adds to the depth of the
whole experience. Do think about Chateau 2015!

Wednesdays assembly was run by Year 3. It was a wide
-ranging curriculum experience! We had lessons in
biology (teeth and teeth care), geography (global
locatons), and history (Henry VIII and his adventures in
marriages). Many thanks to Mrs Ansell and Mrs
Iaquaniello for all their rehearsal work, and well done,
Year 3. It was super to see many parents at the
assembly do come along whenever your own year
group is on show!

Bronte is an actve member of the Independent Schools
Associaton (ISA). As well as providing support, training
opportunites and a collectve voice for over 300
independent schools, ISA runs a variety of academic,
sportng and artstc events and compettons. The 2014
art competton is now in full swing, and the London
South regional competton took place on Wednesday
(11 June) at Gads Hill School.

The impressive new sports hall at Gads Hill was
converted into an airy art space for hundreds of
works - paintngs, drawings, textles, sculptures
from school pupils of all ages from ISA schools. Our
art staf, Mrs Lonergan and Miss Carter, assembled
Brontes entries and, together with Mrs Gordon and
me, atended the competton. All the teachers from
the various schools were able to look around the
exhibits and, while the judges did their judging, we
were given a tour of Gads Hill House, much-loved
home of Charles Dickens. Much of the home
remains unchanged so it was rather poignant to be
present in the great mans study and imagine him at
work. In the afernoons, he would normally stride
out for a 15 to 20 mile walk, no doubt ofen taking
in the evocatve and wild marshes of the lower
Thames, and, I am sure, Gravesend too.

It was super to see so much art on display, and
congratulatons to Leila Sandhu (Year 2) who was
awarded 2nd in KS1 Individual Textle Art and
Abisayo Oyegoke (Year 3) who was awarded a
Highly Commended in KS2 Textle Art.

The Bat and Ball Cricket Ground, home of
Gravesend Cricket Club has the fnest cricketng
traditons spanning over 150 years, and the club
itself, a most successful part of Kent cricket, runs
teams for diferent ages and standards. Bronte of
course has a long associaton with both club and
ground, and many of our pupils are keen cricketers.
On Tuesday, the school took part, with 15 other
schools, in the Gravesend Kwik Cricket competton.
Our team (Will Ansell, Karam Bains, Cody Clarke,
Karam Dio, Max Owen, Eva Rat, Leon Rat, Kiki Raty,
Megan Salter, Tanvir Sodhi) won their opening two
games against Riverview and Vigo, by 6 wickets and 4
wickets respectvely. This earned us a semi-fnals
place, which sadly we lost, by 4 runs, to Cobham
School. Mrs Rogers was very pleased with excellent
play and manners shown by the team. Thus the
spirit of cricket at Bronte is alive and thriving. Mrs
Rogers has asked me to pass on the clubs invitaton
to new junior players boys and girls. Those
interested should see her.

Keeping with Bronte sport, on Monday 16
th
June, Tanvir
Sodhi goes to Birmingham as part of the ISA South East
Region Athletcs team, following his winning gold in the
regional meetng in cricket ball throwing. We all wish
him well.may he throw long, hard and high.

Turning to the weekend ahead, very good luck to all
Saturdays talent performers! It should be an
afernoon full of fun. Thank you in advance to all the
performers, and, for all the eforts in putng it on, thank
you to the Friends in partcular Mr. & Mrs. Ansell and
Mrs. Egan for undertaking the arrangements.

Summer seems to have arrived in force now, very
happily, and, come Monday, Im hoping well experience
