After completing this assignment, students will be able to:
label all major landforms (rivers, mountains, regions) that exist in South Carolina
identify the three Native American tribes (Catawba, Cherokee, and Yemassee) that occupied South
Carolina before European Settlers arrived
Overview
In this assignment, you will examine the geographical features of South Carolina that are going to play a key
role in the history of South Carolina. You will create your own map of South Carolina that will be labeled with
major cities, rivers, mountains, regions, central locations of Native Americans, etc.
Instructions
1. After completing the assigned reading, Chapter 1 in your textbook, open the following Word document.


2. Using the drawing tools in Word, draw the following items on the map. Make sure
that you correctly label each item.
Label and diagram the SIX landform regions on your map.
Shade in each region using a different color
Label the fall line using a broken line - - -
Label the following:
o Savannah River
o Edisto River
o Santee River
o Charleston
o Columbia * (Place a star next to our capital)
o Cooper River
o Ashley River
o Georgetown
o Big Pee Dee River
o Waccamaw River
o Little Pee Dee River
Place a textbox labeling the region that the Catawbas, Cherokees, and Yemassees were most
prevalent.
