Students of the Month! To help promote a safe learning environment, Student of the Month recognition is awarded at CSRMS. Each month, teachers select one outstanding student from each team. Students of the month exemplify the Raven Claws, i.e., respect, responsibility and problem solving behavior. These students help make Rushe Middle School a safer place to learn, and we are very proud to honor and acknowledge their exceptional performance. One Book, One Community The halls of Rushe have been taken over by peace signs, Beatles posters, and flowers! All of our students are listening to their teachers read aloud Schooled during their fourth period classes. We will be reading five chapters each week for the next six weeks. Along with the reading of the book, teams will be participating in activities to enhance the story line of the book. We have some special dates to help us celebrate being one community. On October 15 and October 29 we will be having dress up days. Students may wear tie-dye shirts, peace signs, etc. Keep in mind our school dress code on these days. Our book will end with a Pep Rally on October 29 at Sunlake High School during our school day. The next meeting is Thursday, October 22, at 4:00 p.m. From your School Nurse!! Sixth Grade Screening Sixth Grade Health Screenings will be held on October 22. As required by the state, we will screen for vision, height, weight and BMI. If you do not wish to have your child screened, please inform the school in writing by October 15. If you have questions, please call Ms. Arment , School Nurse at 813 346-1205. Out of Field Teaching Assignments Individuals who are teaching out-of-field are certified in at least one area and are qualified to teach, but may need additional course work to add a coverage to their certificate. The following teachers have agreed to teach out-of-field while compl et i ng course work: Pat ri ci a Lindgren-Reading, The state also requires a teacher to take coursework/inservice towards an English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement, when the teacher is the primary language arts provider and/or Principals Message The 2009-2010 school year expectations are set very high for all students and staff. Our School Improvement Plan promotes quality instructional opportunities for all students. Our goals include: increasing grade level proficiency in reading, math, writing, and science; reducing disciplinary situations involving verbal and physical aggression; and decreasing the rate of failing grades. If you wish to obtain a copy of the Rushe School Improvement Plan, it is available in the front office. ,Joanne Hurley, School Board Member and Heather Fiorentino, Superintendent will be hosting a Strategic Plan Implementation Town Hall Meeting at our school on October 19, at 6:00 p.m. here at Rushe Middle. This meeting will serve as an important opportunity for stakeholders to review the progress made in implementing our District's Five Year Strategic Plan. As an active part of the review process, you will be asked to discuss the challenges facing our schools, share your suggestions for future improvements and generate solutions that can be incorporated into updates of the Districts Strategic Plan. It is the belief that regular re-evaluation of our progress is a vital step in laying a solid foundation for the success of all students in Pasco County. Reading - Marilyn Denig, Ann Marie Dixon, and Catherine Leonard. Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated during October 26 30. Here are a few things that will be happening on campus to help encourage students to live safe and drug-free lives. On Friday, October 23, Tina Levene and a group of students representing M.A.D.D. will visit the campus to speak with seventh grade students. On October 30, Judge Pat Siracusa will speak to eighth grade students pertaining to the legal aspect of drugs and alcohol use. Students will learn more about the dangers of tobacco use from Lt. Dinger. Also, during Red Ribbon Week, FFEA students will visit Oakstead Elementary School to discuss healthy habits. For more information on helping your child remain drug-free, please visit the Rushe website later this month or contact Corporal Roach or your childs counselor. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) offers high- achieving, high-performing students an opportunity to pursue a rigorous program of studies during their high school years. The academic requirements of the IB program are demanding. However, the student with an IB diploma or certificate may be awarded college credit and advanced standing at colleges and universities throughout the world. East side and central schools in Pasco County are served by the IB Program at Land OLakes High School. Parent information nights will be held in November and are open to the public. Applications will be available at these meetings.
