Marketing management is one of major lecture for economics student which have to
study in university or college. Not only its have to studied, but we as students also have to
know and use it in our future daily life as an accountant for both personal or public, and
business related job. For me, I want to be accountant who is offering service to people,
community or company, and we learn it in marketing management. So I think its important
for us, as an economics student yet a bachelor to know and learn more about marketing
management for our future.
Marketing is easy to teach and understand but difficult to practice, its a quote from
the father of marketing named Philip Kotler. Everyday we can learn from books, hear from
people about concept of marketing and it sounds easy, but when you realize when you are
going to use marketing pratically its very difficult because real life practicing marketing
requires a lot of skill sets. Marketing management involves common sense, curiosity and
thought process. We need think a lot about many things and not only superficial thinking, but
have to bold and deep. One of main concept about marketing is to understand about need and
want. There is a subtle different between need and want. Need is lacking someting, example
they hungry, need for food, and need for education. Want is desiring something, example
they want a car.
Any marketing process you will find a commercial activity. Primally involve around
marketing, it can be product, financial practice, or daily needs item. Primally there have to be
something to be marketed. But center of the center of this process is customer, and every
customer have their own need, and marketer have to satisfy their need. The basic thing
marketing do is can it look around and see if there is a need gap, is there a probem that need
solution, can the marketer see that gap and satitsfy customer. Is it posibble for marketer to
make a commercial proposition satisfying need of customer and make a profit. Since it is a
commercial activity not a charity, so it must be profitable. So there are three things that
should be thought about in doing commercial marketing activity, first is it desirable for our
customer (desirability), can our customer adford our service or products (adfordability), and
is it viable for us as a marketer (viability).
For example, there are two brand of chocolate, Nestle and Cadbury. Both are popular
brand in such a kind industry. First we know Nestle chocolate wafer kitkat, its very famous
around the world, and it has already become a succesfull selling. But there is also another
variant of chocolate that Nestle also have, nestle chocolate milk bar. This variant is not
famous and not successful as we know Cadbury milk bar which is famous around the world.
Its also the same for cadbury chocolate wafer. This problem happens because there is
different times of their marketing. Because when once a customer has loyal in one product,
they will difficult to move to another products. Marketer need to use his knowledge about
marketing management to analyze, and find the best solution for such problem. Marketing is
an important both theoretical and skill as a business people, office people or even personal
accountant. We need to study and know well so we can apply in our life, for our successful
future.
