Question
How do I manually uninstall FactoryTalk View Machine Edition?
Answer
Below is a step by step process on removing FactoryTalk View Machine Edition from the computer.
z This document MUST stay as RA Internal.
z This document and its attachments may be sent out on a case by case basis. Provided the engineer and the customer feel they are competent in executing these
instructions explicitly.
NOTE: BEFORE STARTING!!
z Make sure you disable any anti-virus and firewall programs.
z Completely uninstall and remove any installation of Embassy Trust Suite software (often comes pre-installed from computer
manufacturers). Embassy Trust Suite, especially, will prevent a successful installation of RSView/FactoryTalk View Studio for Machine
Edition (see TN 36466for uninstall instructions).
z Remove software that begins with 'HP Protect' or 'Dell Security' from the Add/Remove programs. These softwares have known to cause Studio from running
successfully.
1. Back up the system registry
a. Click Start --> Run
b. Type "regedit" and click OK
c. Click File --> Export
d. At the bottom, select All for Export Range.
e. Provide a file and Click Save
2. Uninstall RSView32
3. Uninstall RSLinx Classic
a. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Rockwell Software -> RSLinx -> RSLinx Classic Backup Restore Utility and backup your configurations.
b. Uninstall RSLinx Classic via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel
c. Delete Harmony, Harmony.hrc, and/or Harmony.rsh from the following location:
32-bit:
C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSCommon
64-bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSCommon
4. Uninstall View ME
a. Run the accompanied UninstallAllFTView.exe utility.
b. Reboot the computer when all components have been uninstalled.
c. Verify the following have been uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
a. RSLinx Enterprise
b. FactoryTalk View Machine Edition
c. FactoryTalk Automation / Services Platform
d. Rockwell Windows Firewall Configuration Utility

Note*: The Rockwell Windows Firewall Configuration Utility (WFCU) should have been removed with the uninstall of FactoryTalk Automation /Services
Platform. Check Add/Remove Programs and verify Rockwell Windows Firewall Configuration Utility has been removed. If not uninstall it now.
e. Disable any remaining services by:
a. Clicking Start --> Run
b. Type "services.msc" and click OK
c. Right-click on each service and select Properties.
d. Then change the Startup Type: to Disabled.

{ RSLinx Enterprise
f. Reboot the computer.
g. Uninstall FactoryTalk Activation Server / Manager from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
h. Uninstall FactoryTalk Diagnostics by clicking on Change then Remove.
d. If you had v6.10 or higher installed, then Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 needs to be uninstalled.
a. Go to the Control Panel
b. Open up Add / Remove programs
c. Find Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and click the Change/Remove button
d. Click Remove.
e. Click OK on the Setup Server Rules window.
f. Choose the MSSQL10_50.FTVIEWX64TAGDB instance to remove from the drop down and click Next.

g. Select All the features to remove.
h. Click Next on the Removal Rules window.
i. Click Remove on the Ready to Remove window.
j. Once it successfully removes SQL click Close.
k. Delete the MSSQL10_50.FTVIEWX64TAGDB folder in the following locations:
For a 32-bit operating system:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\
For a 64-bit operating system:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\
Note*: Once View ME v6.10 or higher is reinstalled it will create a new MSSQL10_50.FTVIEWX64TAGDB instance and ask for a new SA password during
the SQL install phase.
5. Removing Registry Entries
{ Start the registry editor: Start --> Run.
Type regedit and Click OK.

a. For a 32-bit operating system, locate and remove the following registry keys:

b. For a 64-bit operating system, locate and remove the following registry keys:

b. Removing HKEY_CURRENT_USER entries:
a. Locate and remove the following registry keys:
{ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell Software\_METU
{ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell Software\RSView Enterprise
{ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell Software\RSView Studio
{ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rockwell Software\FactoryTalk View Studio
c. Reboot the computer
6. Removing remaining files and folders
a. Delete all files that begin with "FT" and "RNA" in the following directory:
{ For a 32-bit operating system: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Rockwell
{ For a 64-bit operating system: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Rockwell
If any of these files will NOT delete, go to services and stop all FactoryTalk and Rockwell services then try to delete these files again. This is a
must for this procedure to succeed.
b. Delete the entire WFCU folder in the following directory:
{ For a 32-bit operating system: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Rockwell
{ For a 64-bit operating system: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Rockwell
CAUTION: It is sometimes suggested to remove all files/folders under "C:\...\Common Files\Rockwell". If this is done and RSLogix5000 is still installed you
will remove the following files which are very difficult to replace (ModuleDirectory.dll, ModuleDirectory.xml, and MPModuleDirectory.dll) along with
ControlFLASH files, please make sure RSLogix5000 is uninstalled if you choose to delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Rockwell and all sub-folders.
c. Delete the RNAClient, RNAServer, RSLinx Enterprise, and RSView Enterprise folders from the following directory:
Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rockwell\
Windows 7:
C:\ProgramData\Rockwell
Note*: The Application Data folder or the ProgramData folder may be hidden. You will need to go into Folder Options and allow to show hidden files and
folders.
Note**: In cases where multiple incompatible versions of FactoryTalk products are installed, it may be necessary to delete the entire Rockwell directory to
allow Studio to successfully install.

d. Delete the following folder:
32-bit OS:
C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\RSLinx Enterprise
64-bit OS:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockwell Software\RSLinx Enterprise
e. Reboot the computer.
7. Restoring Services and Reinstalling
a. Restore any remaining services, if they exist, back to their default state:
b. Empty the Recycle Bin on your desktop.
c. Reinstall FactoryTalk View ME.
Note*: When reinstalling FactoryTalk View Machine Edition, your existing projects tab will be empty. However, the projects themselves have NOT been deleted
from the computer.
The following technote will show you how to reimport your application. It is recommended to MOVE your projects first from the original HMI Projects folder to another folder on
your desktop. AID_24488 - Import Machine Edition Application (.MED) into FactoryTalk View Studio
The RSLinx Enterprise local configuration must be reconfigured for each project. This information is stored in RSLinx Enterprise directory and not in the project files. Since
RSLinx Enterprise was completely removed, that information has been removed as well.
