To the Editor:
The email below is so refreshing. Her first sentences are so informative as to why this candidate is
contacting me (by the way, I will not be a delegate to the Democratic Convention this year - enjoying my
time with my granddaughters too much.) The email greatly illustrates how elections should be held and
candidates should behave. There is transparency - members are able to be informed in order to make
important decision. There is shared information!! This is so unlike the wicked ways of the Texas &
LULAC National "machine" you so eloquently write about. Texas LULAC has not produced a treasurer's
report for up to 2 and maybe more years and National doesn't let members vote - they literally "kill" off
their opposing candidates by unregulated rules & arbitrary decisions. Unfortunately, this has become the
American way. If you can find "sugar daddies" such as Alameel & Ackman, you can get what you want -
not unlike what the Koch "machine" is doing against America and the Democrats - throwing millions of
dollars at the R party to keep the greed machine well-greased and at their disposal. I wish folks would
wake up all at once and deliver us from these evil doers. (yea, yea, I know if wishes were
horses, bla, bla, bla . . .) It is well documented the current Texas State Officers (not officially elected) and
National Officers are where they sit because they steal democracy & deal in secrecy, bending & breaking
rules to attain their individual personal goals. Greed rules their worlds and is the only way to described
what we have witnessed and experienced at the Texas State & National LULAC convention elections -
absent of any honesty, integrity and desire to work for the community. It has not currently been the
LULAC I signed up to participate with for these past frustrating & deceitful years. Good wishes to all who
are attending the National convention with a desire and commitment to prevail in this horrific lack of
respect to LULAC members and the community as a whole. I wish all well-meaning LULAC members a
safe and fruitful trip.

WEBSITE ABOUT RACHEL WHAT I BELIEVE IN CAMPAIGN CONTACT

Texans Desperately Need a
Strong Democratic Party

The parties at the Convention are fun, but none of us
are going just for parties or fun. The political work we
do as activist Democrats gravely matters.

One year ago today our fearless nominee for
Governor, the great Wendy Davis, filibustered one of
the meanest and most intolerant anti-choice bills in
America for 13 long hours before the Republicans shut
her down with a dubious procedural maneuver. Today
is a day to honor Wendy for her heroic stand. It is also
a day to pause and consider the loss of freedom over
their own sovereign personhoods of millions of Texas
women.

It is a day to realize that what we do matters, because
despite the courageous heroism of Wendy, Leticia,
and the other Democratic heroes in the Texas Senate,
we did not have the political strength to defeat the bill.
What we do at the Convention and in our grassroots
campaigning is not for us, it is for the people of Texas.
The people of Texas desperately need a stronger
Democratic Party to protect them.

Another example of why it matters is the cruel and
fiscally irresponsible decision of Rick Perry and the
Republican political elites to refuse the opportunity to
expand Medicaid - on federal dollars - for Texans who

are in poverty and desperately need medical
assistance. This narrow-minded dogmatic decision
deprives one million or more Texans of medical
assistance that is already paid for through our federal
tax dollars. We fought the good fight, but unfortunately
we did not have the political strength to change the
decision. We owe a moral duty to the people of Texas
to build a stronger Democratic Party to protect the
people of Texas from such malicious cruelty.

Growing up in the Southside barrio of San Antonio in a
humble working class family of two parents and nine
children in a two-bedroom frame house, I know the
meaning of hard work. I'm not a lawyer or a
professional career politician; I'm just an ordinary
middle class Texas woman who works hard along with
her husband to support her family in a ruthless
Republican-created economy. With the full support of
my husband and family I am offering to dedicate my
full-time service to my fellow Democrats to build the
strong Democratic Party our fellow Texans need.

Sometimes in life we never realize the greatness that
each of us has within us because too many people
try to hold us back and too many people will try to tell
us the things we fight for are not possible. I will not let
anything hold us back.

I will listen to our county and local Democratic parties
and grassroots Democratic organizations and help
them get the resources they need to fight back against
Republican viciousness. I will help you build our
fighting Democratic Party from the bottom up where it
counts. I offer myself sincerely and humbly. Thank you
for time and for all that you do as activists for the sake
of our party and for the people of Texas.
