Pollution

Pollution is an issue of concern in the modern world that we live in today. There are many types of pollution, namely air, water and noise. Pollution
in our environment will undoubtedly affect our quality of life. Our naturally beautiful world becoming ugly because it is suffering from the effects of
environmental pollution. Pollution can also cause various health problems and other negative effects.
Air pollution is caused by the emission of toxic gases from vehicles, factories and open burning. Nowadays, there are more and more vehicles on the
road as society gets more affluent. ore and more people strive to have a better quality of life by having the convenience of driving to their
destinations instead of ta!ing public transportation. Automobiles provides transport to millions people around the world to enable them to travel to
their wor!place, school and other places, therefore, the air around us is getting more polluted by the carbon dioxide that is emitted. "arbon
monoxide is another type of gas which harmful to the environment as it can cause the reduction of oxygen in the bloodstream.
Another example of contributor to the air pollution is the manufacturing factories. The manufacturing of products in factories to meet the growing
demand of society is also causing air pollution. #actories release toxic gases to the environment. $ome factories also use coal to generate heat and
energy. As a result from the burning of coal, carbon dioxide is released into the environment.
%esides factories, many people are still practising open burning as a way of disposing their household wastes. Although burning our household
wastes is a convenient way of getting rid of our rubbish, it is harmful to the environment as it contributes to the worsening of the air quality. As a
result, air pollution causes people to suffer from health problems such as chest pain and asthma. &n extreme cases, people can contract lung cancer.
'ater pollution is also a problem that we are currently facing. The marine life is the first to suffer from water pollution as they depend on the
nutrients in the water to survive. As a result, we are robbed of beautiful sea corals and unique species of fishes. %esides ruining our marine heritage,
the disappearance of marine life will affect the livelihood of fishermen, not to mention our source of food. 'ater pollution is caused by harmful
waster from industries, farms and sewerage systems which are dumped into our sources of water such as rivers and la!es. This irresponsible act
contaminates our drin!ing water and can cause serious health problems and can even culminate in death.
Noise pollution is another form of pollution. Noise from heavy machinery and vehicles can cause hearing problems and in extreme cases,
deafness. As there is growing number of vehicles on the road, we are exposed to noise pollution every day. The government in advanced countries
encourage their citi(ens to ta!e the public buses and trains by providing an affordable and efficient transportation system. This effort discourages
people from driving their private vehicles and consequently reduces the number of vehicles on the road.
'e must wor! together to reduce pollution so that the future generations can live in a healthy, unpolluted environment. As the saying goes,
precaution is better than cure. )ets hands on hands together by recycle and conserve the world for the better future.
Short Essay on Environmental Pollution
*nvironmental pollution is the biggest menace to the human race on this planet today. &t means adding impurity to environment. The environment
consists of earth, water, air, plants and animals. &f we pollute them, then the existence of man and nature will be hampered.
&t is true that trees are being cut down rapidly. Our earth is becoming warmer. &f pollution continues, the day is not far when our earth will be a
boiling pan and become a desert. Or it will be covered with sea water causing destruction of man!ind.
Pure air is always needed for inhaling. &f we ta!e pure air, our health improves. On the other hand impure air causes diseases and impairs our health
and causes our death. $mo!e pollutes the air. &t is the root of air pollution. The smo!e which is discharged from industries, automobiles and !itchens
is the mixture of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane etc. These are all poisonous gases. These cause lung+cancer, tuberculosis etc. which ta!e
a heavy toll of life. The glaring incident is the %hopal gas lea! in ,ecember -./0. Thousands of the residents of %hopal died due to lungs problem
which was caused by methylamine gas from the 1nion "arbide Plant.
The garbage emitting foul smell, the decaying plants and animals also cause air pollution. 2ence the doctors advise the patients having lungs trouble
to settle in some rural places because the air of villages is pure and free from population.
Then comes sound pollution. The harsh sounds of buses, its, mopeds etc. affect our power of hearing and causes fart trouble. &t has been reported
that there are two villages named %iraspalli and ,evadas Palli near ,um ,um airport m "alcutta where a large number of people have lost their
power of hearing. This is because of the frequent sounds of planes coming in and going out of ,um ,um Airport. The evils of sound pollution can be
imagined from this example.
The water of rivers and seas is being constantly polluted all over the world by various dangerous chemical and biological wastes. ills and factories
discharge very harmful waste waters into many rivers and sea. The water of the 3anges flowing by the side of both 4aranashi and "alcutta is
extremely polluted and contains all sorts of dangerous bacteria. &t is really very strange and laughable that large number of the &ndians regard this
water as holy. They even drin! this water for salvation. There is no doubt that the fish that grow in such waters are poisonous too.
5ec!less application of chemical fertili(ers, insecticides and pesticides pollutes the soil. 4egetables and fruits are quite in6urious today, because they
contain the poison of insecticides and pesticides.
&f the air we breathe, the water we drin! and the soil which produces our crops, vegetables and fruits, all become more and more impure, then our
chances of good health and longevity will be very less and less. *nvironment pollution is a serious menace to our existence. 5ealising the danger, we
must plant trees in large number to absorb impure air. &mpure water from industries can be sent bac! for purification and then it can be used for
irrigation purpose. Our government is well aware of the fact and is ta!ing steps to save environment from pollution. 'e have also & minister to loo!
after the environment.
