EXT. JAIL YARD - DAY
CARL LUCAS is slamming his sledgehammer on a pile of rocks
in a jail yard. Other prisoners around him are doing the
same.
LUCAS (VO)
Life is like Monopoly...
CUT TO:
INT. NIGHTCLUB - NIGHT
Lucas is partying with friend WILLIS STRYKER. Girls surround
them. They both hold bottles in the air.
LUCAS (VO)
You start doing good. You make the
money. You buy the luxurious
things....
CUT TO:
EXT. SIDEWALK - NIGHT
Willis escorts his girlfriend REVA out of a restaurant. A
black van pulls up and one of the tinted windows rolls down.
A gun barrel pokes out.
LUCAS (VO)
But with just the roll of a dice...
Slam to black. A gun shot is heard. You hear the screams of
pedestrians.
LUCAS (VO)
...You can go to jail at any time.
We hear a jail cell slam shut.
FADE IN TO:
INT. JAIL CELL - DAY
Lucas lies down on his bed, looking up at the ceiling. An
older white male walks in.
OLDER MALE
Im Dr. Burnstein...
Lucas sits up.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2.
DR. BURNSTEIN (OLDER MALE)(CONTD)
Im doing an experiment.
LUCAS
Look man, I aint a lab rat
alright? Im not doing anything.
DR. BURNSTEIN
Not even for your release?
Lucas raises an eye brow.
CUT TO:
INT. LABORATORY - DAY
Lucas lays on a table. The table is over top of a tank. Dr.
Burnstein stands at the top step leading up to the tank.
DR. BURNSTEIN
It is a very easy procedure. You
will be unconscious for the
majority of the procedure so you
wont feel a thing.
Lucas nods his head and closes his eyes. Restraints clasp
around his arms, hands, knees, feet, and head. The table
descends down in to the tank. A green liquid flows into the
tank from all sides as Lucas slowly loses consciousness.
P.O.V. - LUCAS
Everything begins to fade to black. Suddenly we smash back
and scientist are running around the room. Everything is
tinted green since we see it from Lucas perspective.
LUCAS (VO)
Abraham Lincoln said Nearly all
men can stand adversity, but if you
want to test a mans character,
give him power.
Lucas starts trembling. The restraints begin to become
loose.
LUCAS (VO)(CONTD)
They gave me power...So lets see
what type of character I am.
END P.O.V.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 3.
Lucas jumps out of the pool on to the stairs in front of it.
He jumps up to a platform and lands on top of a control
panel. He grabs two scientist and throws them over the edge.
2 guards come running at him from both sides. He jabs one in
the chest, sending him flying in to the wall, and kicks the
other in the groin (resulting in a disturbing cracking
sound).
CUT TO:
EXT. NEW YORK STREETS - DAY
Lucas runs through a crowd of people on the sidewalk as two
thugs chase him.
SUPERIMPOSE - HES RUNNING FROM HIS PAST
CUT TO:
INT. COURTROOM - DAY
Lucas is testifying in his trial.
LUCAS
What right do you have to sit
behind that desk and judge me? I
WAS FRAMED!!!!
SUPERIMPOSE - FIGHTING FOR HIS FUTURE
CUT TO:
INT. WAREHOUSE - NIGHT
A group of thugs, equipped with AK-47s and AR-15s, all
point their guns at Lucas.
THUG 1
Youre screwed man! How you gon
get out of this huh? YOU CAN"T
ESCAPE!!!
Lucas outstretches his hands.
LUCAS
...Try me...
The thugs fire their weapons. All of the bullets bounce
right off of Lucas. Lucas unlatches a metal chain from his
belt.
(CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4.
LUCAS
Now MY turn!!!
Lucas jumps in the air and brings the chain down towards the
head of THUG 1. Right before it connects we slam to-

NARRATOR (VO)
Luke Cage: Hero for Hire!!!
BLACK!
