Bronte School

Headmasters Newsleter 8
27th June 2014
Receptons assembly on Wednesday had a theme
of helping others. Performed to a hall packed with
Recepton class parents and with the rest of the
school, there were presentatons and songs, about
diferent services, such as fre and rescue, post, po-
lice and ambulance. I found myself imagining these
children in 20 years tme as grown-up members of
these services. Maybe, when they are grown-up,
perhaps having joined a service profession, they
will look back on their assembly in 2014!
Well done to all the children and our thanks to Mrs
Kybert, Mrs Lakha and Mrs Kalyan for all they did
to prepare and rehearse the children.

Talking of rehearsals, its been fascinatng to ob-
serve the rehearsals for the Year 5/6 producton of
Macbeth. (7.00pm, Wednesday 9
th
July). Its
looking very good indeed. There are two
performances, and the play is open to all families
of the school. Tickets, prices 2,50 per adult
(children free), can be obtained from the School
Ofce next week, for either Wednesday 9
th
July or
Thursday 10
th
July, both startng 7.00pm. The play
lasts for about an hour and a half, with an interval
when wine and sof drinks will be served.

All families most welcome it should be a great
evening, so do come if you possibly can.
This week has been ChYps Week, a
remarkable and varied array of fundraising
actvites from Year 6, in support of the local
childrens charity, ChYps (the childrens arm of
the Ellenor Lions Hospice). There have been
cake stalls, afernoon tea, sales of toys and
games, (this was like Harrods on 27
th

December.) and a sponsored silence when
somehow the whole year group atempted to
uter not a sound for a period of one hour. It
culminated in todays Silly Sox Day, when
there was some prety remarkable calf- and
ankle-wear being sported. Very well done to
Year 6, who have shown great sales skills, and
to everyone one who has been supportng
them so generously.

The inaugural meetng of the Bronte School and
Nursery Advisory Board took place on Monday.
The board, Richard Dyson, Robin Lewis and
Catherine Mentzel, were shown around the
School and the Nursery, and gathered for tea
with school and nursery staf. Afer this, there
was a meetng for the School Senior Leadership
Team and Nursery Co-Managers with board
members. This proved a valuable opportunity
to refect on the very encouraging positons of
both school and nursery and to look at longer
term strategy and developments. Of the later,
more later, as I would like to set up a meetng
during next academic year when parents can be
briefed about strategic thinking and can have
the opportunity to discuss and comment.
Today, Friday, we have the Infant Slumber Sing
Along where the children will be bringing
their sleeping bags / pillows / sof animals and
singing along to Frozen. Im sure they will
have a great tme and thank you to the staf
for their tme and efort into making this an en-
joyable evening for the children.

On Thursday, Bronte partcipated in a
Commonwealth Games celebraton event
organized by Gravesend Rugby Club. There were
three six schools in the competton. The schools
team of ten Year 5 and 6 children came frst in
the rugby ball handling competton, second in
the short tennis event and frst in that famous
French game, Petanque, at which no doubt they
have been well coached by Mrs Baldacci.

These results meant that Bronte came frst over-
all, a really splendid result and great credit to all
those taking part. Many thanks to all the very
supportve parents who were there, and to Mr
Owen and the rugby club for organising the
event.
