Dear friends and loved ones:
The Orlando (McCoy) airport was in sight - an on-time landing of the Pan Am
flight from London, 7:10 P.M., December 10. We had just crossed the Atlantic
in nine hours. The memories of our 3 months in the British Isles are
almost like a kaliedoscope if we try to recall them as a whole. But, when we
separate and "itemize" the experiences into their respective settings, then
each becomes a vivid and exciting adventure. At the foremost would be ray
class^essiohs in Sprin^ale College, Selly Oak, BirmTingiiamr While we all
spoke English, I shall never forget some of the humorous incidents when it
became necessary to "translate" a "Cockney." or "Brummy" expression into my
mother tongue of the "pure language" of Southern Illinois - or vice versa.
In comparison with serving in a half-dozen Bible colleges on four continents
I have never enjoyed teaching anymore. The age span ranged from a teenager
to 50 and 60 year old grandparents. I think it was a rich learning experience
for us all. We were privileged to visit and preach in several of the British
Churches of Christ. We appreciated so much the fellowship of the Ilford
Church in London on. Nov. 27. Eileen had visited this Church in December 1974
and spent the day with the gracious Mr. and Mrs. Charles(Joan) Robinson. So
this was almost like a reunion as again we were their guests for Sunday dinner.
The chilling stories of their personal experiences in the almost nightly bomb
ings of London during World War II were sobering reminders of the awfulness
and futility of war. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, we met with about 40 or 50
Americans, missionaries, families and guests at the Borehanwood Church of
Christ, London, for "turkey and all the trimmings", with Richard and Peggy
Bourne as the hosts.
After our classes and chapel were over each week in Springdale College, we
took advantage of being almost in the middle of England and visited so many
places of historical interest. To name just a few - Stratford Jpon Avon,
(Shakespeare), Warwick Castle, first built in 1068 by William the Conquorer,
Coventry, which was devastated in the all-night bombing blitz by the German
air-force the night of Nov. 14-15, 1940. (Lady Godiva was actually riding her
horse but fortunately the late afternoon shadows protected my eyesight). We
visited Oxford, with its 28 colleges and nearby Blenheim Palace, the birth
place of Sir Winston Churchill. The old, old cemetery with his simple grave
marker in the adjacent village of Bladon were of special interest to me
because Bladon was the ancestral home of the family of the late Clifford and
Eric Dance. I cannot omit York , where we walked the old Roman walls, built
by Emperor Hadrian, the remains of the Viking culture of a thousand years ago
and the York Minster, the greatest Gothic Cathedral in the world. Perhaps the
highlight was our five day trip to northern Scotland, the Highlands, Aberdeen
and Inverness, with two days on the Isle of Skye - and of course. Loch Ness
(no monst^er in sight).

After the Springdale College family Christmas party and farewell, Friday even
ing, Dec. 9, we motored to London with student Peter Shaw and spent the night
with the Richard Bournes who took us to Heathrow Airport Saturday morning for
our flight to Orlando. Eleven days later, Dec. 21, after the shocking news
of the bombing of Pan Am Flight # 103 over Scotland, we realized that we had
seen our daughter Cindy board that very flight on Sunday afternoon,
October 2, when she returned from her two weeks Holiday in the British Isles.
It took nearly two weeks before Christmas to put the finishing touches on the
garage apartment and ready it for occupancy. It is small but a complete living
unit, and, we think as "cute as a bug in a rug". Our renters, Mr. and Mrs.
Gene Heiple, retired Postal official, Erie, Penn., will arrive Jan. 2, and
will occupy the 'big house' until April. The apartment will not only provide
living quarters for us for such occasions but will be a convenient addition
when our family tribe is visiting or for other guests. After all, we are just
45 minutes from Disney World. We spent the Christmas holidays in the piney
woods of Georgia with our daughter Darlene, husband and two grandsons, Cindy
from Atlanta, our son Lee and Eileen's mother Mrs. Sadie Davis.
I will leave Tampa at 6:10 A.M., Thurs. Jan. 5, and arrive in Bangkok,
Thailand, Friday night at 10:00 o'clock, a 28 hour flight with exactly a 12
hour time difference- 12:00 noon in Lake Wales is 12:00 midnight in Thailand.
After the weekend in Bangkok with Somchai and Georgia Panya, I will fly to
Chiangmai for my class in "CHRISTIAN EVIDENCES" Jan. 9-20, in the Bible
Institute. The accelerated teaching program has 3 hour sessions per day, 5
days a week = a total of 30 class-room hours for 2 credit-hours for graduation.
Evenings and week-ends will be spent in conferences and evaluation for IDES,
then I will have 3 weeks to spend with the missionaries and evangelists among
the Hill Tribe refugees, visiting the projects that IDES has funded. There is
a possibility of making a short trip into Red China with Dr. Stephen Morse.
My final 12 days in Thailand will be spent with the Panyas in their new work
in Bangkok and among the refugees on the borders of Cambodia, Laos and Burma.
After my arrival in Manila, Feb. 22, I will go directly to Negros Occidental
for 10 days with Jerry Siasat in Magsaysay and Ronito and Carlita Lisas,
Bacolod. I will meet Eileen's plane as she arrives in Manila, 7:20 A.M. Mar.8,
(her birthday). Our weeks in the Philippines are already planned (packed would
be a better word) by our Filipino brethren.Evangelism, Leadership Training
Seminars, Graduation speaker, March 26, for the Negros Institute of Evangelism
Bacolod, Commencement speaker, April 2, Cebu Bible Seminary, messages and
workshops at the National Convention of the Philippine Churches of Christ,
April 6-9, the annual American Missionary fellowship, Baguio City and visiting
Islands where we have never been in our previous six visits to the Philippines.
We leave Manila for home, Friday, April 21, at 6:10 P.M., and will arrive in
Tampa at 8:45 A.M. Sat. Apr. 22. Fast flying? Not really, for when you add the
II hour time difference between Philippine and EST, it is actually a 25 hour
flight.
We will not send another newsletter until we are in the Philippines. (May be
wishful thinking, but hopefully). My mailing address until February 22, will
be Chiangmai Bible Institute, P.O. Box 59, Chiangmai 50000, Thailand, and
until April 21, Cebu Bible Seminary, 968 San Isidro, Talisay 6045, Cebu, Phil.
Sincere gratitude is difficult to express in words. "Thank you" almost seems
superficial sometimes. Why not let Tiny Tim say it for us, "God Bless Us Every
One", and a "Happy New Year" to boot.
In HIS Kingdom Service,
Delmar and Eileen Debault

ATTENTION:- DVBS DIRECTORS, CAMP MANAGERS, DIRECTORS/MINISTERS OF
YOUTH AND/OR CHRISTIAN EDUCATION.
Eileen and I are grateful for the excellent year of 1988 that we
feel we have had in our Cross-Cultural Ministry of Leadership
Training and Evangelism.. We spent the first fifteen weeks of the
year in Guyana, South America, teaching in the National Bible Institute
Berbice, New Amsterdam, and preaching in most of our churches in Guyana.
Then we closed the year with three months in the British Isles, with
head-quarters in Birmingham, England, where I taught in Springdale
College, Selly Oak, with extension classes and ministry among several
of the English Churches of Christ.
We have devoted much of the past 12 summers in DVBS, Youth Camps and
Conferences, Mission rallies and conventions in more than twenty states.
A complete listing, with references from all, can be furnished upon
request. Our summer itinerary for 1989 is being arranged and we would
be delighted to be considered as your missionaries. We have thousands
of slides and missionary memorabilia from these experiences, gathered
from the most primitive, remote villages to the great cities of the
Orient and the world. Ours is a ministry of Cross-Cultural evangelism
and Christian Education, specializing in Bible College/Institute teach
ing, Leadership Training Seminars and liaison service with American
Missionaries. Our programs come from numerous mission trips into India,
Thailand and the Philippines, Burma, Assam, Guam, the Cambodian Refugee
Camps, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Hawaii, Zimbabwe, Africa, Haiti, Jamaica,
Honduras, Guatemala, Guyana, South America and the British Isles.
A few dates have been reserved but most of the summer is open. If you
can use either, or both of us in your camp, DVBS or special services
please address your request to our Lake Wales address. Although I will
t3e in Thailand and the Philippines from January 5-April 22, Eileen will
be here until March 4 to answer your correspondence. After she meets me
in Manila March 6, our mail will be forwarded to the Philippines. We can
be involved in other Camp or DVBS activities and often share in Teaching
or Preaching, if there is a need.
