Have you ever wondered what Adam and Eve felt like
on their first day of life? They didnt start out as babies
like the rest of us, but as fully grown adults. How did
they know how to talk? How did they know what words
meant or how to describe feeling hungry or excited?
Try to visualize how God created our world and the first
human beings.

dam opened his eyes and looked straight into the eyes of . . . Who
is this? he wondered.
Standing before him was the most awe-inspiring, loving, and kind
being man has ever seen. God the Son, the Creator, reached for the
mans hand and pulled him to his feet. They stood face to face. The
Creator rejoiced over His first earthly creation made in the image of
God. Adam was surrounded by a glow of pulsing light, reflecting the
glory and radiance of the Creator. Being in Gods presence Adam felt
peace, joy, and love for his Creator. His thoughts were holy, his desires
were pure, and his greatest joy was to spend time with God.
In the Garden of Eden the Creator showed Adam the many gifts
created for him. With every step Adams feet sank into velvet-like grass.
He paused to look into a flower. His eyes could see into the detail as
he studied the grains of yellow pollen. Two woolly things bounded
toward Adam and nudged his hand. What is it? he wondered. Adam
learned from the Creator that these creatures were custom-designed
for him. He ran his fingers through the soft masses of white. You are
sheep, Adam said. The sheep gave a deep-throated Baa-a-a-a as if
they understood Adams words, then bounced away together.

uch had changed since Adam and Eve had last walked and
talked with the Creator in the Garden of Eden. Oh, how they
wished they could see God face to face as in the past! With deep regret
they remembered what they had lost as a result of their disobedience.
All around them in nature they saw the signs of decline as consequence of their disobedience. The animals that once were peaceful
had become violent. Thistles and weeds grew everywhere. The signs
of decline and death were visible in plant, animal, and human life.
With the passage of time, Adam and Eve became parents. They
taught their two sons about the Creator and about life in Paradise.
Often the first family went to worship God at the entrance of the
Garden of Eden. Cain and Abel remembered the anguish on their
parents faces as they tied the lamb and placed it on the stone altar.
While Adam gashed the throat of a lamb they each felt deep grief. It
was very sad to see the innocent animal die.

tall, handsome man in his late 20s strode briskly toward Potiphars main house. He was well built, with muscles that were accustomed to being active. He walked proudly, as if he were in charge
of everything around him.
Actually Joseph had been a slave in Potiphars household for 10
hard years now. At first he had been just one of the many slaves who
worked in the extremely rich and complicated household. But Potiphar had kept promoting him, until now he was in charge of everything in his household.
Joseph stepped from the bright Egyptian sun onto the handwoven rugs of the cool interior of the main house. He was well
acquainted with all three stories with their polished, hand-carved
furniture. He knew every plant on each of the beautiful garden balconies. He knew how many slaves it took to cook a luscious dinner
and serve it on golden tableware with a background of live musical
entertainment.

K, Mrs. Andrews, the teacher, began, picture this. Its a hot, hot
day. Hot and VERY dry. So dry that the moisture just seems to be
sucked right out of your skin.
Joseph looks up from the documents he has been sealing. He
looks out at the line of people waiting to buy grain. People are
coming to Egypt from all over the world, it seems. And the line gets
longer every day.
Joseph stands up, signaling to his assistants that he is going
to take a break. He gazes out again over the weary, travel-stained
strangers. Suddenly he squints in disbelief. There is a group of men
out there near the end of the line who look very familiar. They look a
lot like his 10 older brothers. They are his 10 older brothers!
Now, Mrs. Andrews asked, how do you think Joseph felt?
He was probably shocked, Marianne answered.
I dont know about that, Matthew put in. If people from all over

he proud walled city sat at the edge of a beautiful plain, filled with
shady trees and good things to eat. Horse-drawn chariots of war
could be seen coming and going through the city gates. Inside the
gates stood palaces and temples to the goddess of fertility. Not far
away flowed the Jordan River. The Israelites camped near the river God
had recently stopped for them to cross. Joshua, the new commander
of the Israelites, slipped from his tent and walked past the rows and
rows of similar tents to the edge of the plain. Before Joshua lay the
city of Jericho with its mighty walls. It would be impossible to get over
the walls or march through the gates. He remembered that God had
promised them the victory. Somehow God was going to conquer this
land for them, one city at a time. But how?
Suddenly Joshua realized that someone was there with him. He
looked up. A man with a drawn sword stood just ahead of him. Sir,
Joshua spoke respectfully, are you for us or for our enemy? His hand
slid to his sword hilt, just in case.
Neither, the mans deep pleasant voice responded. I have come
as the Commander of the army of the Lord. Joshua took his hand off

In your Bible Study Guide you will find each weekly Sabbath School
lesson marked as to where it fits in the big Bible story. Today we live
between the first coming and the second coming of Jesus. We live
very close to the Second Coming!
As you become more familiar with fitting the individual stories
into the picture time line, you will better understand the Bible as
one big story and become closer friends with Jesus. And when you
see how the small stories fit around the six bigger stories, then
the Bible will become even more meaningful to you. Hopefully you will
realize more than ever that you are part of the big Bible story!

WORSHIP
hese lessons, including the story, are to remind you of what you studied
from the Bible in Sabbath School the week before. They include ideas
for living what you learned. Other ideas help you communicate with God
through prayer, reading from your Bible, and reflecting on what you read.
That is how to grow your own relationship with Jesus.
These stories and activities arent like a school lesson for you to study
before a test. Actually, a big part of your Sabbath School lesson is the study
you do from the Bible and the discussions you have with your teachers in
Sabbath School.
Maybe you dont have a Sabbath School class that studies the lesson. Or
maybe you want to know the Bible story before you get to Sabbath School. If
thats so, why dont you read for yourself the Bible texts and references listed
at the beginning of each story? Or better yet, read them with an adult for Friday night worship. You might even think up some questions as you read. Be
sure to write them down so you can ask your teacher on Sabbath morning.
Most important, please take time to read, pray, and reflect on Jesus every
day. Ask Him to help you apply what you study to what you do in real life. It
isnt only what you know with your head, but its also what you know with
your heart, that helps you be a strong, growing Christian.
