Power supply

Check the electricity supply is appropriate for your lighting requirements.
Check sockets with Martindale. Protect yourself with RCDs. 2kW max on
domestic supplies.

Lighting

Check ceiling composition. Position to avoid sprinklers, smoke detectors
etc. Secure stands with sand bags. Keep all cabling tidy.

Generator

Control exhaust emission/Fire extinguishers to hand. Risk assessment and
paperwork from supplier

Distribution

Cable runs clear of obstacles etc. Use appropriate securing methods for
location. E.g. No cable runs across doorways or that could cause trip
hazard.

Weather

Equipment must have covers when used in damp, rainy conditions

Shared power
supply

Information of power requirements must be provided in all cases of
providing or receiving power for risk control

Lighting cables

Cables must be covered with rubber mats on all access/egress routes and
where the public are allowed access or cables flown.

Lighting stands

Place carefully to prevent toppling, the use of sand bags to be used in case
of uneven floors, danger of knocks, wind etc

Work at heights,
studio scaffold

Competent personnel to use scaffold etc. Ladders must not be used in
Studio or standing on boxes etc. Only non-conductive poles may be used
to alter angles of lights connected to the grid.

Rigging lighting and
reflector boards

Positioning carefully. Check Ceiling material, sprinklers, smoke detectors.
Check mains sockets with Martindale and protect yourself with the use of
RCDs

Water, filming on,
under or alongside

Protective clothing, aware of location of lifebelts etc. No mains lighting to be
within 4m of water.

Restricted
access/egress (e.g.
narrow, low,
uneven etc)

Do not block fire escape routes and ensure safe access/egress for all and
for people with needs

Smoke effects, oil
mist effects, dry ice
etc

Check all personnel (crew and talent) for health issues. E.g. Asthma


Scenery and Props

Checks must be taken for safety of props from falling, toxicity
of paints etc.

Use of Cars in productions

No filming to be undertaken on public roads without Police
involvement. I.E. to close off roads etc. Driver distraction.

Filming of and from moving vehicles

As above or a 'Low loader' could be hired from a specialist
supplier and not on public roads.

Emergency procedures

Make sure you have all the relevant information for local
police, hospitals, fire and check weather forecasts for
suitability for exterior location filming etc

Camera Cranes etc.

Trained personnel only. If using outside contractor obtain the
risk assessments from them
