Make your voice heard! For more information or to get involved, visit www.richmondprogressivealliance.net | www.apen4ej.org | www.350bayarea.org Richmond Progressive Alliance Chevron is making the wrong choices n Chevrons claim that their project is cleaner is not true and is based on buying pollution licenses. Greenhouse gases would go up 16%, carbon monoxide by 9%, and volatile organic compounds by 3% n Chevron proposes to increase the 15 toxic air contaminants that most contribute to cancer, asthma and other chronic health conditions by 58%. We already have too much high risk pollution n Chevron is still not committing to a safer refnery with an aggressive program to upgrade all of the old carbon steel pipes carrying oil at over 450 degrees Its time for Chevron to make a better proposal STEPHANIE HERVEY, CBE MEMBER: I have young children, so I am deeply concerned that Richmond make the right choice and require Chevron to actually reduce harmful emissions here in Richmond. Nickel 1035% Arsenic 676% Chlorine 53% Cadmium 1250% Mercury 133% Manganese 49% Ethylene 59% 1,3 butadiene 9% Diethanolamine 4197% Silicon 25% DPM 1% Naphthalene 3270% Formaldehyde 126% Hydrogen Sulde 863% Selenium 58% Chevrons proposed emission increases for the Top 15 chronic health risks in order of toxicity: INN VILAYNGEUN, APEN MEMBER: Ive lived and worked next to the Richmond refnery for 16 years and have gotten sick all of the time. Chevron must replace all of the old equipment and pipes in all of their operating units with best available technology for our health and safety. ANDRS SOTO, RPA MEMBER & EX-PLANNING COMMISSIONER: My family grew up in the shadow of Chevron. One sister and two brothers have had cancer, including one who died as a three year old. Richmond can choose to make Chevron truly clean up its act. We owe it to our families. What has the State Attorney General said about the project? Chevrons proposed project is unacceptable n An alternative scenario with no increase in greenhouse gases would be acceptable because it would not interfere with reaching Californias goal of signifcant greenhouse gas reductions by 2050, would not increase local toxic emissions in a community with high pollution rates, and would improve safety State Attorney General Harris The Richmond community has choices to protect our health and safety. Together we can ght for: n HEALTH: Chevron can commit to a substantial emissions reduction program n SAFETY: Chevron can replace all the old pipes working under high temperatures with safer technology that wont corrode and explode, and replace all clamps at the frst reasonable opportunity n JOBS: Chevron can fund a signifcant renewable energy jobs program that will reduce local greenhouse gases Chevron also has choices. They can dramatically improve our health and safety by modernizing more of the refnery and limiting the dirtier oil being processed OR they can focus primarily on their profts.
