1. TEACHING METHODS AND TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

1.1 DIRECTED METHOD

It works for addressing teaching and learning problems.

It focuses on:

 Structured learning products – meaning that it allows learners to work

on

problems.

 Learners answering questions and get feedback on correction.

 Providing all the information and instructional activities a learner needs

to
master.

Intergrated strategies are structured when using simulations and problem

solving

software. Simulation is to demonstrate the underlying concepts and to

show how

systems work. Problems Solving teaches directly through explanation and

practice

the steps involved. It helps learners acquire skills by giving them the
opportunities to

solve problems.

1.2 CONSTRUCTIVIST METHOD

It is designed to make learning more visual and experiential. Here the

learners working

with visual programming language create designs on screen. It allows the

learners to

be flexible in how they learn and demonstrate their competency.

It focuses on:

 Having learners use data gathering tools.

 Study problems and creating multimedia products.

 Presenting their new knowledge and insight

2. PROBLEMS AND NEEDS OF DIRECTED

 Learners should work on their own using traditional teaching and learning
method.
 It is designed to address problems of accountability and quality
assurance in education.

3. PROBLEMS AND NEEDS OF CONSTRUCTIVIST

 Learners should work as a team or group work using non traditional method.

 It is designed to help learners think on their own and work in team or group.

4. ASSESSMENT METHODS ON DIRECTED

 It is a mastery learning strategy

 Teachers need or require an evidence that the mastered skills have

been observed.

 Assessment strategies use multiple choice, true and false questions

and short answers questions

5. ASSESSMENT METHODS ON CONSTRUCTIVIST

 It is a traditional assessment strategies

 Teachers recognize that activities require a reliable and valid means

measuring

learner’s progress.

 Assessment strategies used web pages and desk tops.

6. DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DIRECTED AND CONSTRUCTIVIST
INSTRUCTION

DIRECTED CONSTRUCTIVIST
Based on cognitive behavioural and Based on cognitive, developmental
information processing theories and discovery theories
Espouse directed methods Espouse inquiry based methods
Learning happens when knowledge is Learning occurs hen one constructs
transmitted to people and stored in both mechanisms for learning
their minds
Learners pass by means of written Learners show what they have
tests learned in different ways
Approaches are too slow to be Instruction is teacher centred
practical
Learning has to be teacher centred Instruction is learner centred
