Sand Control

PoroMax Screens
Maximizing Performance and Value
D
eep water? High build angles? Long reach
horizontals? Multilaterals? High rate/high
pressure gravel packs or frac packs?
If these are some of the challenges you face,
PoroMax sand control screens provide the
solution. Combining the global gravel pack
experience of Halliburton with the recognized
filtration technology of Purolator, PoroMax is
a top-of-the-line premium screen product,
engineered for optimum inflow area in a
shrouded, sintered laminate screen. These
screens retain the toughness of the highly
successful original Poroplus screen making
them suitable for installations with an
extended reach and/or long open hole and
for installation through a casing window
(such as for multilateral completions), with
or without centralization. With substantially
improved dirt-holding and pressure drop
performance due to the improved inflow
design, PoroMax screens are also suitable for high-flow
applications. They can perform as a standalone or back-up
means of sand control in horizontal openhole completions,
the most common application, or they can be used with
vertical/deviated gravel pack or FracPac applications.
PoroMax sand control screens
do not deform under extreme
pressures due to a proprietary
sintering process. The screens
employ a unique protective shroud that
protects the Poroplate media from
erosion and mechanical damage. PoroMax
screens provide superior plugging resistance,
increased production rates, and longer well life.
Increased Flow Potential And Remedial Options
The PoroMax screen design provides a low-profile screen
approximately
1
2" larger than the outside diameter of the
base pipe. This feature allows for a larger diameter base pipe
than pre-packed screens allow. This design is preferred when
maximum ID/OD ratios for gravel packing are required.
Superior Plugging Resistance
The filter mesh was selected because of its superior
contaminant capacity and erosion resistance. The Poroplate
filter medium captures the desired formation particles on the
outer surface of the screen. The finer contaminants pass
through the coarse downstream mesh layers.

Sintering at over 2000 F in a controlled
atmosphere causes metal molecules to migrate
across contact points of the wire mesh layers.
Diffusion bonding takes place to form Poroplate

media, a completely integrated structure.

The low-profile open area of the outer protective shroud plus the increased
annular space increases the erosion resistance of the PoroMax screen vs.
the standard Poroplus screen. Utilizing the same Poroplate media as the
Poroplus screen, PoroMax screens offer superior erosion control coupled
with improved filtration capabilities.

Increased Porosity
Poroplate media have an inflow area
of 30% to 40% compared to a typical
pre-packed screen inflow area of only
3%. As a result, PoroMax screens
provide lower pressure drops,
increased production rates and longer
well life.
Excellent Backwash Efficiency
The Poroplate filter medium has an
extremely uniform pore structure.
And because it is a surface filtration
medium, backwash efficiency is
excellent. Filter cake removal can be
accomplished through a single
reverse-flow sequence.
Media Ductility
Poroplate filter media are fully
annealed. This feature provides
excellent ductility, which allows the
screen to conform to the bending
and flexing of the base pipe in short
radius wells. PoroMax screens have
survived numerous bend, torque,
tensile and crush tests with no loss of
filtration performance.
