Introduction
The birth of the DepEd
Physical Fitness Test Manual
came about after the review
and revision workshop of the
existing physical tness tests
introduced by Dr! "paracio h!
Me#ui$ former chair$
Philippine %ports &ommission
'P%&( and Director$ )ureau of
Physical Education and %chool
%ports ')PE%%(!
The workshop was
inspired by the desire of
the Task Force on %chool
%ports 'TF%%( to bring in
new trends and the latest
researches in the eld of
physical tness while
responding to issues on
test #ualities and
administration!
The )ureau of %econdary
Education ')%E($ on its own
initiative$ has revived the
Physical Fitness test'PFT( for
schools implementing the %pecial
Program in %ports '%P%( and
likewise to other private and
public schools that intend to o*er
the program! The PFT is one of
the admission re#uirements for
students in the program!
The PFT is a set of measures designed
to determine one+s level of physical
tness! It has two components namely,
-ealth./elated and %kill./elated Fitness
Tests! Each component comprises several
tests and specic testing protocols! There
are one thousand and one used worldwide
but the choice of the tests considered
time.e0ciency in the administration$
availability of e#uipment$ simplicity of the
procedures$ and practicality of the tests!
Moreover$ under the 1 to
23 )asic education
&urriculum$ Physical tness
is the ultimate goal of the
physical Education Program!
It is in this light that
eventually$ the PFT shall be
incorporated4adopted in the
PE curriculum from 5rades 6
to 27!
Test administration shall be treated
as an essential component of the
Physical education and %chool sports
Program! )oth elementary '6$ 8 and 9
and secondary pupils4students( shall
undergo the tests during the beginning
and ending of the school year! :sing a
score card$ each pupil4student shall be
responsible to record and keep the
result of his4her own performance! The
school may include these score cards
in the school+s MI%!

development4improvement!
;! To identify bases for physical
activities!
6! To gather and analy<e data for
norms and standards setting!
8! To motivate and guide students in
choosing sports activities they would
like to participate in!
Test Protocol

Prior to actual day of testing$


familiarity testing sessions should be
held advising students to go through
without exerting maximum e*ort!

Explain the purpose and benets that


can be derived from physical tness
test!

Make sure that the test score cards are


lled up and ready for distribution to
students 'name$ age$ gender$ etc!(
prior to testing

%et up station'in form of circuit training(


ready for use one hour before actual
testing begins
to ensure smooth Bow of tra0c!

Divide the students into groups$ by pairs


'buddy system( and assign them into
di*erent stations!

%tudents should wear appropriate


clothing,
t.shirt$ >ogging pants$ and rubber shoes!

&onduct warm.up and


stretching exercises before
the tests!

&onduct testing in a >oyful$


challenging$ encouraging$
and fun.lled environment!
