Seismic CGM File

The CGM File Generation menu is displayed when you select the File/Hardcopy/CGM File
option. This menu contains 6 tab pages that allow you to specify plotting parameters and to
create a CGM file of the current window. After the CGM file has been generated, you can plot it
using your own plotting software.

The options available under the File tab are:

Select CGM Output File Path and Name: In the output file box, you can set the directory and
file name where the plot file will be stored. If you press the Select CGM Output File
Path and Name button, a File Selection box that allows you to choose the directory and
enter a file name will be shown. The extension .cgm will be appended to the file name
automatically.

Preview: When you press the Preview button, a CGM previewer window will display the
CGM file that would be created using the current values of the parameters from this
menu.

The options available under the Title Block tab are:

On/Off: This toggle allows you to choose whether or not a title block will be included in the
CGM file.

Set Width: This field allows you to set the width of the title block in inches.

Min. Height: This field allows you to set the minimum height of the title block in inches.

Project Title Text: This box allows you to enter text describing the project that these logs are
associated with.

Comment Text: This box allows you to enter text describing the logs and the plotting
parameters, or any other comments that you would like to be shown in the title block. If
you press the button labeled Append history text to comment area, the information
displayed when you select the View/History Text option will be added to the contents of
this box.

The Range & Scale tab page allows you to control the size and scale of the actual display area
of the final CGM plot. The options available under this tab are:

Trace Scale & Range: These fields set the scale of the horizontal (trace) axis of the display
area. By default, the scale is set to the same value as the current window. You can adjust
the trace spacing and you can also set the start and end traces/gathers to be plotted. The
plot will contain traces from the current inline/xline only.

Time Scale & Range: These fields set the scale of the vertical (time) axis of the display area.
By default, the scale is set to the same value as the current window. You can set the time
scale and the start and end time to be plotted.

The Color Trace tab page allows you to control the way that colors are drawn. The options
available under this tab are:

Resolution: This toggle can be set to either Low or High. The low-resolution mode is intended
for draft quality plots, as the color overlay for each trace is drawn separately, producing a
banded appearance, while high resolution interpolates the colors between traces.

CGM Method: This toggle can be set to either Normal or Cell Array. Generally, the cell array
method of CGM file generation is preferred, as it takes advantage of optimization
features to reduce the size of the CGM file. Some rasterizers cannot interpret files
created with this method, so you may choose to use the normal method.

The options available under the Options tab are:

The Layout section contains 5 toggles to allow you to control the display and placement of the
Title Block, Color Key, Plot Title, and the Trace and Time Annotations in the final CGM plot.

Title Block/Color Key: The title block and color key can be set to appear to the left or
right of the display area, or not be shown.

Plot Title: This title, the text displayed at the top of each window, can be shown above
the display area, or not be shown.

Project/Line Label: This option allows you to show the project name and line number
below the traces or below the title block, if you wish.

Trace/Time Annotations: Trace number annotation in the display area can be either
above or both above and below the traces. Similarly, time annotation may be
shown along the left side of the section, or on both sides. Each of these may also
be removed from the display.

Maximum Output Resolution: This parameter sets the resolution of the CGM plot. For CGM
files created from most windows, the default value will produce files that are not too
large, without sacrificing the appearance of the final plot.

The buttons on the Display tab allow you to control the appearance of specific regions of the
plot. The Margins button brings up a menu that specifies the Left, Right, Top, and Bottom
margins, in inches. The other buttons bring up a menu with up to four tabs: Window, Text
Format, Text Spacing, and Others. Each of these tabs sets parameters for the appearance of
the selected window area and text display within that window.
