Proving Angle Relationships

Were going to do proofs of angle relationships today the exact same way we did word proofs yesterday.
Proof 1: Prove that vertical angles are congruent using the following rules
(1) Linear pairs are supplementary
(2) Supplementary means the two angles add to 180 degrees
(3) Subtraction property of equality lets us subtract the same thing off of both
sides of an equals sign.
(4) Substitution property of equality says that if two things are equal to each
other, they can be replaced by each other.

Start: 1 and 2 are a linear pair, 2 and 3 are a linear pair

_____1 and 2 are a linear pair ______ because____it was given_______
________________________________ because____it was given_______
________________________________ because _Statement 2: Def of supplementary___
________________________________ because______________________________
________________________________ because______________________________
________________________________ because______________________________
Finish: ________1 = 3_________ because______________________________
Proof 2: Prove that if two angles are both congruent and supplementary, then each is a
right angle.
(1) Supplementary means the two angles add to 180 degrees
(2) Substitution property of equality says that if two things are equal to each other,
they can be replaced by each other.
(3) Combining like terms- two things that are of the same type can be added
(4) Division property of equality lets us divide the same thing from both sides of an
equals sign.
Start: 1 and 2 are suplementary, 1 = 2

_____1 and 2 are supplementary ____ because____it was given_______

________________________________ because____it was given_______

________________________________ because______________________________
Finish: ________1 = 2 = 90____ because______________________________

Proof 3: Prove that if 1 and 3 are supplementary, and 2 and 3 are supplementary, then 1 = 2
(1) Supplementary means the two angles add to 180 degrees
(2) Subtraction property of equality lets us subtract the same thing off of both sides of an equals sign.
(3) Substitution property of equality says that if two things are equal to each other, they can be replaced
by each other.
Start: 1 and 3 are supplementary, 2 and 3 are supplementary
_____1 and 3 are supplementary ____ because____it was given_______
________________________________ because____it was given_______
________________________________ because _Statement 2: Def of supplementary___
________________________________ because______________________________
________________________________ because______________________________
________________________________ because______________________________
Finish: ________1 = 2_________ because______________________________
Proof 4: Prove that if 1 and 3 are complementary, and 2 and 3 are complementary, then 1 = 2
(1) Complementary means the two angles add to 90 degrees
(2) Subtraction property of equality lets us subtract the same thing off of both sides of an equals sign.
(3) Substitution property of equality says that if two things are equal to each other, they can be replaced
by each other.
Start: 1 and 3 are complementary, 2 and 3 are complementary
_____1 and 3 are complementary ___ because____it was given_______
________________________________ because____it was given_______

congruent
Substitution property: If two things are equal, then they can
be replaced by each other.
