1. Upper management wishes to cut down on support costs in these offices by
centralizing file backups of remote servers so that they are all performed from the
corporate headquarters. However, remote IT staff is complaining that performing full
backups of data over the WAN connections is taking too long, and is interfering
with normal production work during the day if the backups do not finish in a timely
manner, How can you improve the process of performing centralized backups using
the technologies described in this unit?

ANSWER
Install DFS Replication on DFS file server.
DFS Replication is an efficient, multiple-master replication engine that you can use
to keep folders synchronized between servers across limited bandwidth network
connections. It replaces the File Replication Service (FRS) as the replication
engine for DFS Namespaces, as well as for replicating the Active Directory Domain
Services (AD DS) SYSVOL folder in domains that use the Windows Server 2008
domain functional level.
DFS Replication uses a compression algorithm known as remote differential
compression (RDC). RDC detects changes to the data in a file and enables DFS
Replication to replicate only the changed file blocks instead of the entire file.

2. In the main office, There are ten secretaries using a single, shared, high-speed
laser printer that is connected to a dedicated Windows server 2008 print server.
The secretaries print multiple copies of large documents on a regular basis, and
although the laser printer is fast, it is kept running almost constantly. Sometimes
the secretaries have to wait 20 minutes or more after submitting a print job for
their documents to reach the top of the queue. The office manager has offered to
purchase additional printers for the department. However, the secretaries are
accustomed to simply clicking the Print button, and dont like the idea of having to
examine multiple print queues to determine which one has the fewest jobs before
submitting a document. What can you do to provide the department with a printing
solution that will enable the secretaries to utilize additional printers most efficiently?

ANSWER
Install additional, identical printers, connecting them to the same Windows server
2008 print server, and create a printer pool by selecting the appropriate check box
on the Ports tab of the printers Properties sheet.

3. You are deploying WSUS in your organization. Several workstations in your
organization run a non-Microsoft application that was negatively impacted in the
past after downloading certain updates. As a result, many of the users of that
application have disabled the update feature and are reluctant to participate in
the SUS server deployment. How should you design your deployment plan so
that you can stage and test updates before distributing them to the rest of the
organization?

ANSWER
Include two WSUS servers in the plan that share a parent-child relationship.
Download all updates to the parent WSUS server, test the updates, and approve
only updates that pass the test. When the parent has approved updates, the child
WSUS server downloads them and makes them available to users.

4. Given the sensitive nature of the data that Contosos researchers work with on a
daily basis, the CSO of Contoso wants to implement the ability for researchers to
encrypt their files and email messages against tampering by any outsiders. Since
some of the work being done requires Contoso to conform to government security
standards in many countries, Kevin wishes to deploy this capability in the most
secure manner possible. However He is concerned with adding additional traffic to
the already overburdened WAN links at some locations, as this would adversely
affect the researchers ability to perform their research. In order to minimize the
burden on Contoso Ltd's WAN links, how would you deploy CA computers within
their environment?

ANSWER
Because the PKI structure is hierarchical, It can be deployed a single root CA at
the corporate headquarters, then deploy multiple subordinate or intermediate CAs at
remote locations that have concerns about their WAN utilization.


5. You have deployed multiple Windows Server 2008 file servers across your
organization to allow researchers to store and access critical research fields for the
various projects they are working on. However, it have come to your attention that
numerous administrative staff are saving non-work-related fields to the same file
servers, such as photos, movie files and MP3 files, Trey Research management
has tasked you with ensuring that storage on company file servers is not overtaxed
with these files; however, work-related files should still be permitted.
Use any two Windows server 2008 file technologies to solve this problem.

ANSWER
Windows Server 2008 provides the ability to filter files as they are stored. This
technology is called file screening.
It is available through the Filer Services Resource Manager.
Install the File Server role and the FSRM role feature
Open FSRM and expand till you reach file Screen Mangement.
Highlight File Screens and choose create new file screen from the Actions menu
Choose Derive properties from this file screen template: (recommended)
and select Block Audio and Video Files. Click Create.
