Purpose
The purpose of this External announcement is to attract suitable Nutrition Specialists from outside the organization for
inclusion in UNICEF's Rapid Response Mechanism located in the Western, Eastern, Southern and Central African
regions, also known as the WESC RRM. The purpose of the WESC RRM roster is to ensure that our regions' emergency
staffing response is in line with the organization's strategic goals, by improving emergency staffing to support emergency
preparedness and response through a predictable and coordinated approach to emergencies in sub-Saharan Africa.
Therefore, it is not a regular vacancy announcement but rather a campaign to attract candidates with emergency
experience interested in short term emergency assignments with UNICEF.
This roster is comprised of both Internal and External staff who specialize in wide array of programmatic and operational
areas. As future emergency needs are often difficult to predict, we need to ensure that we have sufficient Internal and
External staffing capacity in the pipeline, in order to best respond to the needs in every emergency context.
This announcement is targeting External candidates outside of UNICEF with interest in working in any of the countries
within UNICEF's West and Central Africa region or UNICEF's East and Southern Africa region for the next 12-24 months.

We are currently looking for Nutrition Specialists in the following areas;
- Nutrition Managers (Technical and Team Leader)
- Nutrition in Emergencies Specialists (Technical)
- Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies Specialists
- Nutrition Survey Specialists
- Nutrition Cluster Coordinators
Candidates with suitable profiles in Nutrition will be placed in the WESC RRM to be considered for short term (3-6
Months) emergency assignments in the regions. Candidates will be responsible for periodically updating their profiles via
e-Recruitment. Successful candidates who are being considered for emergency assignments at UNICEF will receive
e-mail queries of interest and availability from the Regional HR team.
Successful applicants will:
- be based in countries in UNICEF Western, Eastern, Southern, Central African regions
- be expected to deploy within 1 to 2 weeks from confirming to interest and availability to UNICEF;
- be deployed on 2 to 6 month assignments on a Temporary Appointment (TA) or consultancy (SSA) contracts for
external applicants
Key Expected Results
- Timely sectoral analysis, input, support and collaboration to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update made for
effective project planning, development and management.
- Quality of rights-based, gender-sensitive Nutrition projects/programmes effectively promoted, and coherence,
synergy and value added to project management process through results-based management.
- Sectoral work plan and activities formulated, implemented and monitored, ensuring alignment with the defined
project strategies and approaches, with special attention to gender/sex disaggregated data or relevant indicators.
- Project delivery, evaluation and reporting carried out efficiently, rigorously and transparently in compliance with the
established guidelines and procedures.
- Knowledge management effectively promoted through drafting/finalizing key Nutrition sectoral programme
documents and reports, sharing good practice, lessons learned, and ensuring knowledge/information exchange.
- UNICEF's global goals effectively promoted through advocacy and policy dialogue in the Nutrition sector.
- Proper and timely UNICEF and Government accountability ensured regarding supply and non-supply assistance as
well as disbursement of programme funds for the Nutrition sector.
- Effective communication and networking achieved through partnership and collaboration, ensuring that
gender-specific feature and requite issues are highlighted.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Education
Advanced university degree in one or more of the disciplines relevant to the area of the expertise. A first level university
degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
At least 3 to 8 years of professional work experience at national and international levels in relevant programs including at
least two (2) years of substantive relevant experience in emergency countries dealing with major natural and
humanitarian emergencies. Familiarity with the UN system is desired. Experience of working with UNICEF is highly
desirable.
Language proficiency
- French is required for work in French-speaking countries, and English is highly desirable
- English is required for work in English-speaking countries, and French is highly desirable
- Portuguese and English are required for work in Portuguese-speaking countries
