FOLLOWING JESUS: Attaining the High Purposes of Discipleship
Discipleship is a process of learning to follow Jesus and to become an effective tool in
spreading the good news to those who does not know Him yet. In this book, it gives insights on
to how to become a disciple of Christ. The author starts each chapter by sharing his own
experiences to the readers and then relates them to the topics. It begins with how every difficult
situations can become a blessing and a guide in nurturing the spiritual journey that the readers
were about to partake. Becoming a disciple of Jesus does not take a smooth path but rather a
hard, rocky journey with each experience in Christ as a way of polishing it. In using his own
experience, the author relates himself to the readers that he is himself an imperfect human being
who overcame troubles in his life when he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. His advices on
knowing your sins and asking God and fellow men for the repentance of it, sharing Gods truth
among believers and non-believers alike, getting the training needed in reaching the lost, and
sharing the love of Christ to all gives a step by step program on how to be effective disciples of
Jesus. Not to mention including faith and prayer as key sources of strength and communication
to God. Having time with Christ through praise and worship also gives a closer relationship with
the Lord. The author also gave some advices on how to look for a partner in life whom you will
also grow in faith with. As the book says a good marriage is made in heaven. But its the
choices we make on earth that determine how heavenly the marriage will be. The bottom line is
that a marriage must be of God to succeed spiritually. Dating and marrying a person who is
chosen to be with forever should be thoroughly thought and prayed for. As quoted If you wait
for Gods time, you will get Gods best.
Today these topics are essential not only in making a person to become a missionary but
also in having a growing personal relationship with God. Not all people can become a
missionary. Remember that between the two experiences of calling and commissioning, the
disciples were used of God, whether in the field of preaching or medicine, engineering or even
carpentry. Whatever you do, keep praying. Always devote to prayer and above all, continue to
develop a more Christ-like character and love Him more deeply and follow Him more closely.
