During a June 2014 election, the following doctoral students were elected to serve as leaders of the TECS graduate student organization for the upcoming school year. The purpose of the GSO is to facilitate and support academic, social, cultural, and professional development activities for TECS graduate students at all levels and in all concentrations. This leadership team will begin the year with line item funding approved by the Graduate Student Senate contact them once the fall semester begins if you have ideas for or are interested in being involved with event organization!
Anne Marie Foley is a doctoral student in the Children, Families, and Schools concentration in TECS. Her primary interests lie in character and morality development, specifically at the intersection of values between home, school, and peer life. For the past year she has been the Project Assistant for CFS, responsible for maintaining email listservs and social media, as well as planning and executing the CFS Fortnightly Lecture Series. She will serve as the secretary of the TECS GSO in the upcoming school year.
Daniel Morales is a doctoral student in the Language, Literacy and Culture concentration in TECS where he pursues interests in neoliberalism and education, education policy, teacher education, critical pedagogy and cultural studies. After teaching and learning in both Chilean and U.S. contexts, he developed an awareness of the role of education in income distribution, the mismanagement of public policy programs, and the role of discourse to perpetuate the current unequal social system. He served as treasurer of the TECS GSO in 20132014 and was elected co-chair for the upcoming school year.
Danielle Allessio is a doctoral student in the Math, Science, and Learning Technologies concentration of TECS. She has a passion for social justice and equity issues and has represented graduate student workers in our department by serving as the Graduate Employee Organization Mobilization Coordinator, a member of the GEO bargaining committee, and a member of the UAW local 2322's Eboard. She is proud to bring these experiences to the GSO in support of TECS grad students as treasurer in the upcoming school year.
Hyejin Jeon is a doctoral student in the Teacher Education and School Improvement Concentration in TECS. She studies how to use systemic functional linguistics and genre pedagogy in U.S. and Korean contexts to equip teachers and students with resources for teaching, learning, and critiquing discourses associated with schooling. She served as secretary of the TECS GSO in 20132014 and was elected co-chair for the upcoming school year.
