News f rom your Twydall Ward Labour Councillors - Spring 2014
Having represent ed t he Twydall area for t he last 50 years, Paul
Harriot t has decided t o st and down at t he local elect ions next year.
Paul has been a fearless f ight er for t he area and many will wish t o join
us in giving him our best wishes.
Alt hough he won't be st anding again as a Councillor, Paul will cont inue
t o run t he Labour Club in Twydall Lane. It seems you can't keep a good
man down!!

and raised, lives locally wit h his wife and t wo
young children.

Every year, your local councillors are allocat ed 3,000 each as
Ward Improvement Funds (or WIF!). Dort e, Paul and Glyn pool t heir
WIF and in t he year t o end March f unded:
4000 t o Woodlands Yout h Club (which is at t he west ern end
of t he ward) wit h t he bulk of it t o help f und t heir out reach
work at t he Beechings Pavilion
Support f or local communit y groups including t he Twydall
Gardening Club which looks af t er t he hanging basket s in t he
shopping cent re and Sewing Toget her which put s on t he
quilt ing exhibit ion each year.
Bollards at Denbigh Avenue
Out door play equipment at Twydall Primary school (lower &
upper).
A donat ion t o t he Twydall Foodbank
Christ mas light s in t he shopping cent re (and t hey will be back
t his year!).

The Government 's Housing
Minist er has writ t en t o
Medway Council demanding
answers about it s recent grab
of 2million f rom Council
t enant rent reserves.
The money, much of it paid by
Council t enant s living in
Twydall, was t aken by t he
Tory Council wit h t he bulk of
it t o pay f or a new library in
St rood.
Labour Councillors have
opposed t his grab, and
welcome t he Government 's
int ervent ion
Whilst demand will always
out st ret ch t he very limit ed
f unds available, we always
welcome ideas on how t he
f unds could be spent .
