People and their Beliefs

Australia is lucky to be made up of people with


different cultural backgrounds and different belief
systems.
These things affect how they live their lives and how
they are viewed by the people living around them.
It is important that we have a good understanding of
the different beliefs within our society so that we
can respect one another and live together in harmony.
In pairs you will be researching a belief system.
(Religion)
You may choose from the following religions;
Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam
and Christianity
TASK ONE
For each religion you will need to research the
following areas as indicated on your proforma
1. Name your religion TITLE: What is it called?
2. Origin of your religion: Where did it
originate? Who founded (started) the religion?
3. Main belief/holy sacred text: What/who do the
followers believe in? What special text/s are
followed?
4. Places of worship/sacred places: Where do
followers meet to worship? Any sacred (special)
places?
5. Rituals and special celebrations: What/when do
the followers celebrate?
6. Interesting Facts: Are there any
interesting/special facts about the religion?
7. Associated signs and symbols: What are the
signs/symbols that identify the religion?


TASK TWO
Present your research as a POWERPOINT presentation.
Use the information on your research proforma to complete the following
1. Page One: Title page
Include at least two images relevant to your
religion
2. Page Two; Origin of your religion
Explain where/when the religion originated and who
was the founder.
Include a map; on your map indicate where the
religion began.
3. Page Three; Main belief/holy sacred text
Explain what/who the followers believe in. Describe
any special text/s followed.
Include at least one relevant image
4. Page Four: Places of worship/sacred places
Explain where the followers meet to worship and
describe any sacred places.
Include at least one relevant image.
5. Page Five: Rituals and special celebrations
Describe/explain any rituals and special occasions
celebrated by the followers.
Include at least one relevant image.
6. Page Six: Interesting Facts:
Describe any interesting/special facts about the
religion.
Include at least one relevant image.
7. Page Seven: Associated signs and symbols
Present your chosen images as a collage that
represents the religion include colours, signs,
symbols, flags, costumes and any other relevant
images.
