Education
The World of
Work
The World of
Retirement
Covers the first 18-20 years
which are spent in formal
schooling to acquire the
knowledge and skills and
develop attitudes and values
to prepare the next stage
which is the world of work
This second period, which is the
longest, usually encompasses ages 20
to about 60-65 years
The third period covers 60

finally closes the final

between school and work and there is no planning for
retirement

The World of
Education
The World of
Work
The World of
Retirement
Our work prepares us for retirement, either to a
life of leisure or to another career in retirement.
Planning connects the boxes of life.
Career Planning
is a deliberate process of knowing WHO we are
so that we can be sure of WHERE we want to go
or WHAT we want to be at some defined point in
the future
7/17/2014 15
Career Planning
Helps to clarify our answers to the following
questions:
WHO am I?
WHERE do I want to go?
How do I get there?

According to Prof. Tony Watts, Career Development is
the lifelong process of managing progression in
learning and work.
The quality of this process significantly determines
the nature and quality of individuals lives: the kind
of people they become, the sense of purpose they
have, the income at their disposal.
It also determines the social and economic
contribution they make to the communities and
societies of which they are part.
