Friends

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back toyou when you have
forgotten the words. Good morning to the panel of honourable judges, teachers and friends. On this
fine morning, I would like to talkabout Friends.
On this planet, who cant live without friends? Everyone. Bart Simpson wouldhave died of boredom
with his sister, Lisa. That would not happen because hehas Milhouse of The Simpsons to tag along
with him. We need our peers to liveour lives, to joke around, and to help us with our mischievous
plots. Who woulddare to tell an adult about our plans?
Friendship is a blessing, and a friend is the channel through whom greatemotional and spiritual
blessings flow. Friends will cheer us up when we are fullof depression. With eyes full of sorrow, we
are bound to get attention themoment our friends notice. We usually just want them to hang
around with us, tohave a good time, to act silly and just be ourselves.
Remember the guy you had a crush on? That oh so hot Edward Cullen in Twilight? With his delicious
sultry blue eyes and charming British accent thatwould make your heart melt the instant he talks.
During the days our favouriteHollywood artistes are famous, we tend to get carried away to Day
Dream Land.Students our age are most probably to tell our buddies on how awesome theyare. Im
sure none of you would go screaming to your mum and say Mum!Robert Pattinson as Edward
Cullen is soooo hot! Im going to read the third booklater. She would have said, Stop reading all
those vampire stories and get backto studying. Will your friends react the same way as your mum?
Of course not. They would sit down with you and say, Totally. I wish Im Kristen Stewart. Iwould get
to act and hang out with him off set. Acting as Bella would be so cool. This settles it. Our spirits
would have been brought down if we didnt have anyfriends.
As well as our fantasy world, our buddies are on the job as our Fashion Police. We would be fined
if we wear bell-bottoms with a T-shirt, which your mum toldyou to, to our graduation ceremony.
With our friends, we could choose the appealing dress with stiletto boots which would look
awesome in front of acrowd. You can save a major fashion disaster.
Friends are like peanut butter and jelly. They always stick together. Who else other than your best
friend would help you walk to the infirmary when you brokea foot while playing basketball? We
always stick together anywhere we go. One of us never follows. We walk side by side. We treat
ourselves as equals. Always be humble and never brag on things that you own. One would never
treat the other like leaves on the ground. Good friends are precious and rare like diamonds. Very
hard to find. We should never cast our friends aside.
Friends are like angels without wings. Some may be devils in disguise. Exactlylike the song Fly on
The Wall by Miley Cyrus. The song tells about a personwhom you trusted and thought he was nice.
Actually, he was betraying the onehe so called cared. We should never betray our friends secrets
to the world of rumour-hungry people. As well as secrets, we shouldnt cancel our get-togetherat
the last minute.
Theres only a few minutes left until an exam starts. You realised that youhavent memorised the
important facts yet. Who else other than your closestbuddy will sit next to you and repeat the words
over and over again andhopefully remain in your brain for the next 60 minutes.
A lot of people go through life with only a few friends. It seems that some haveless than that. They
have no one they can call in good times or bad. There is noone with whom to bounce ideas around,
or to talk about deep and troublingsubjects. They have no one to call in times of need or difficulty.
They arestanding alone, being an outcast.
When we are bored, we could SMS our friends with our fingers at the speed of lightning. Or even go
to their house to catch up with the latest gossip. For mosttech-savvy people, they prefer going to
chat rooms on the internet and interactwith people of different experiences. Besides chatting, we
are able to joinnetworking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Friendster. On these sites, weare
able to search for long-lost friends as well as new people. These ways wontmake us lonely as we
could interact with our friends in a different way.
As life goes on, we meet different people each time. Some turned out to be ourbuddies. Friends
come and go. We lose some and gain a lot more. Some friendsstay right by your side while others go
the opposite way. There are times whenone of your friends becoming the matchmaker of your
future life, and succeeds.Good or bad friends come and go. But theres one thing for sure, we cant
livewithout them. Here is a poem on friends:-
A friend is someone we turn to
When our spirits need a lift,
A friend is someone we treasure
For our friendship is a gift,
A friend is someone who fills our lives
With beauty, joy, and grace
And makes the whole world we live in
A better and happier place.
With that, I thank you.

Assalamualaikum and a very good morning to my fellow friends, teachers and judges. Today, on this
fine morning, I would like to present to you a public speech about Music.
Music. We hear it every day. No matter where we are, music will always be played either on
the radio or just by humming a tune. Did you know that music started as early as the Paleolithic era?
So music is about 200 000 years old. Wow! Its so old. Still people enjoy listening to this old art for
nearly 200 millenniums.
Music is an art which uses sound as its main medium. The word music originated from a
Greek word mousike (musikis), which means art of the Muses (Muses). The Muses are the
Goddesses of Greek who loves art and literature.
The elements needed to produce music are pitch, rhythm and dynamics. The pitch is the
combination of melody and harmony. Rhythm is the beat of the music. Dynamics are the volume. At
first the song starts soft then it gradually starts to get loud. Suddenly theres an accent and
everything settles down and dies away.
An object needs to be vibrated in order to produce sound. Lets take a guitar for example. We pluck
the strings in order to vibrate them. The sound waves then enter the hollow wood and echoes in
order to make the sound louder. How about a woodwind and a brass instrument? Ah, but theres a
catch. These two instruments are the same but they are not alike. Both instruments need puff
power. But a woodwind instrument uses holes to indicate different notes whilst the brass family
uses valves.
Some standard orchestral instrumental families are the strings family, as in pianos, guitars,
violins and so on. Next, the woodwind family. For example, flutes, recorders, bassoons and others.
Lastly, the brass family. The family consists of trumpets, French horns, tubas and others. Sometimes,
people use imaginary instruments like the air guitar. They are just basically strumming like a guitar
but without a guitar. Still the song is playing in their heads.
The music genre is generally endless. It ranges from Acapella to Fusion jazz, Gaana to Muzak
also known as the music you here in elevators, Nagauta, a kind of Japanese style of music, to Rumba,
Sabar to Zydeco. Sabar is not the Malay word for relax. It is a drumming style found in Senegal. Have
you heard? Theres another genre coming! Revolution Pop is created by Usher Raymond. Oh, you
know! Hes Justin Biebers mentor. The most popular genres that we hear nowadays are pop,
dominated by the late King of Pop, Micheal Jackson. Rock, conquered by Elvis Presley. Punk, played
by bands like Green Day and Paramore. Country written by Taylor Swift and a few others. But the
only thing I cant deny is that the most popular genre right now is K-pop or Korean Pop. Boy bands
like Super Junior and girl groups such as 2NE1 are examples of artists who gets involve in K-pop. Boys
and girls are going nuts over the artists
Through music and the lyrics, a massage could be passed through. Moral values could also be
found in them. Some song lyrics contain impolite words which should be avoided as it could
contaminate the thought. Motivating songs could boost and motivate anyone who listens to it.
Composers are people whose job is to make music. Music could come out as complex as it
sounds or even as easy as just making up a tune by humming. It may sound difficult but if you have
the will to learn and create music, then it wont be that difficult. An example of a classical composer
that we always hear but seldom know is Ludwig van Beethoven who wrote the song entitled Fr
Elise. At the age of 26, Ludwig van Beethoven started to lose his sense of hearing. He gradually
became deaf but that did not stop him from creating more fantastic music. Dont know whos
Beethoven? How about we take someone local. Edry Abdul Halim. One of the members of a boy
band with the name KRU. He has created music for many Akademi Fantasia candidates and many are
a hit!
Music is written theoretically and made real practically. It lives in every one of us. Music is like
an international language. Even though we do not understand the lyrics but we understand the
melody. The rhythm. The harmony. Everything starts small. In music, it starts with a note. Then, a
tune. After that, a rhythm and a melody. Finally, a harmonious song that unites everyone
disregarding the race or the background or whatever at all was born. Music unites the souls of
Malaysia and the world. Guess what! We enjoy it!
Thank you and Assalamualaikum.
