STANEX diaphragm

for ball mills

Ideal for new mills, replacements in
existing mills and refurbishments,
the STANEX diaphragm ensures low
pressure drop, free material ow and
material level control.
Made to last
Free flow areas
Mechanical advantages
The STANEX features a sturdy design
that incorporates a retainer ring of
machined cast steel segments bolted
to the mill shell and a heavy supporting
plate with spacer pipes. A steel front
plate is bolted onto the pipes for rigidity.
Through-going bolts join the grates,
lining, and supporting and front
plates. The grates are made of chromi-
um alloy heat-treated to 48-52 HRc
a very ductile, wear-resistant material
that ensures long life.
8 mm slots in the grates for closed circuit
grinding ensure ample flow area and
prevent the passage of too coarse par-
ticles. The risk of nibs etc. blocking the
slots is minimised by making the slots
slightly conical, i.e. with increased width
in the flow direction. The radial adjust-
able lifters are affixed with a simple
bolt connection in the centre cone,
making it easy to change the lifter
position if needed.
The lining plates facing the subsequent
grinding compartment are made of a
50 mm thick high chromium alloy with
a hardness of 50-54 HRc for long life.
When producing Ordinary Portland
Cement from clinker and gypsum, the
estimated minimum service life is 12,000
hours for the grates and 36,000 hours
for the lining plates facing the subse-
quent compartment.
Operational features
The ground material enters the dia-
phragm through slotted grates and is
lifted without further obstructions into
the next compartment by the radial
lifters. The free flow inside the dia-
phragm eliminates the risk of blocking
even if the material contains moist
additives. Individual adjustment of the
radial lifters in the diaphragm makes
it possible to maintain an appropriate
material level in the preceding com-
partment, thus optimising grinding
performance and avoiding excessive
wear on grates, shell liners and ball
charge.
The large grate area enables a high
circulation factor, while the large centre
opening contributes to a low pressure
drop even at a high air flow rate. The
short built-in length of the STANEX
diaphragm ensures longer effective
mill length compared to other types
of diaphragms.
Application
The STANEX is available for all mill
diameters in both metric and U.S. units.
Due to the segmented retainer ring
bolted to the mill shell in a single row
of bolt holes only, the STANEX can be
adapted to different drilling patterns
in existing mills without making extra
holes.
