Dear Chairman Dean and Vice Chairman Wiggins:

Based on the warning letter received from Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on
Colleges (SACSCOC), the Alabama State University Student Government Association requests that you
and Vice Chairman Marvin Wiggins resign from your positions as trustee members effective immediately.
We demand this resignation because your leadership has caused the university to undergo an
accreditation warning and has caused embarrassment and conflict to the university. This is damaging
Alabama State Universitys brand and image, and your actions are tearing away at the credibility of ASU
and negatively affecting the students, staff and alumni.

Our reasons for asking for your resignations are as follows:

SACSCOC named yours and Trustee Wiggins family members as having contracts with the
university. This is a direct violation of SACSCOC standards.
Moody's Investors Service cited the Board as having significant governance and management
challenges, which have led to and been exacerbated by extraordinary events, such as a forensic
audit, presidential turnover, and accreditation challenges that limit ability to focus on core
operational improvement, which resulted in three downgrades within the last six months.
The Board voted to allow the student body and taxpayers of the state of Alabama to pay legal
expenses that they may incur in the event that any of the board members or university
administrators are charged with a criminal or civil offense.
In a news report, dated July 18, 2014 on WSFA, you referred to the SACSCOC citations as
minor, which is an indication that you do not take the violations seriously.
In a time when the University is economically strapped, the Executive Committee of the Board, on
which you and Vice Chairman Wiggins serve, made the request for a $100,000 transfer of money
to the Boards account to hire personnel and to use for various meetings after asking the
university administration to cut back on spending; and
Under your leadership, the University is experiencing financial difficulties that could have been
avoided had more stringent guidelines been placed on spending and approval of spending.

The student body believes that it is in the best interest of the university that both of
you resign immediately and submit your resignations by Friday, July 25, 2014 to Governor Robert
Bentley.

Sincerely,
Darren L. Dubose
Student Government Association President
