The Fat Prince and the Angry Man

Percy is a prince. He lives in a beautiful country called Pinland. Peter is his


father. He is the King of Pinland. They both live in the palace.
Last summer, Percy was sad.
'You can't play with the other children in the sun, 'the King said to Prince
Percy. 'They are poor, but you are rich. ne day you are going to be King of
Pinland.'
!any poor children played outside the palace. "very day the ran, #umped and
danced. $ometimes they wor%ed with their mothers and fathers in the fields.
They were poor, but they were healthy.
Prince Percy sat in the palace and ate too many ca%es and ice&creams. He was a
fat prince.

'Let's go and play in the forest(' said the children. ')e can climb trees.'
$ome old people in the town were angry. '*on't go in the forest(' they said. '+t's
dangerous. The ,ngry !an lives there. He will eat you.' The children laughed.
They were not afraid.
ne day Prince Percy loo%ed out of the palace window. He saw the children
playing and laughing in a field near the forest. 'they're happy,' he thought. ')hy
can't + play with them-' He bounced a ball on the floor sadly.
Then a boy shouted to Percy, '.ome here and play with us(' The boy's name was
Podd. He was fat.
Prince Percy was afraid. '!y father will be angry,' he said.
'*on't be afraid,' said Podd. '.ome and play with us('
Percy loo%ed at the children. They were happy. He carried his bass to the field
and played with the children.
Podd loo%ed at the trees. '+'m going to play in the forest(' he said. '.ome with
me('
''o, don't go(' said his friend, Tom. 'The ,ngry !an lives there. He will eat you.'
'+'m not afraid,' Podd said. He went to the forest.
Prince Percy and the children followed him.
$uddenly Podd saw a thin old man. He had a very angry face.
'Help(' shouted Podd. '+t's the ,ngry !an. He will eat us('
The children ran away. /ut Prince Percy was too fat.
'+ can't run 0uic%ly enough(' he said. The ,ngry !an caught him. Percy was
afraid. ',re you going to eat me-' he as%ed the ,ngry !an.
''o, said the ,ngry !an. '.ome to my house. You can wor% for me. !y name is
,lan.'
Percy went to ,lan's house in the forest. He wor%ed hard. He coo%ed, cleaned,
chopped wood and dug the garden. +n the evening, Percy was tired and hungry.
,lan gave him enough food, but not too much. There were no ca%es or ice&creams.
Prince Percy wor%ed hard every day. "very evening Percy and ,lan ate bread,
chic%en, vegetables and fruit. They dran% water and tea. Percy was not a fat
prince now. He was slim and healthy.

'ow Prince Percy and ,lan were friends, so ,lan was not angry. He was a happy
man. Percy ate enough food but he did not eat too much food. 'ow the ,ngry !an
was not angry, and the fat prince was not fat(
/ut the prince was not happy. '+ was to go and see my father in the palace,' he

,lan and the prince went to the palace. The people in the town saw them.
