INTRODUCTION
In ancient India, architects used to work as interior designers. This can be seen from the references of
Vishwakarma the architect - one of the gods in Indian mythology.
Throughout the 17th and 18th century, and into the early 19th Century, interior decoration was the concern of
the homemaker or, an employed upholsterer or craftsman who would advise on the artistic style for the interior
space. Architects would also employ craftsmen or artisans to complete interior design for their buildings
In the past, Interiors were put together instinctively as a part of the process of building. The profession of
interior design has been a consequence of the development of society and the complex architecture that has
resulted from the development of industrial processes. The pursuit of effective use of space, user well-being
and functional design has contributed to the development of the contemporary interior design profession.
In the past, paint was produced from mineral and vegetable pigments. Cloves and alfalfa yielded
green. Blue came from the indigo plant. Red came from pomegranates and a certain mud.
Paintbrusheswere created from the tough hair found in a goat's tail. Today, however, women use
modern manufactured paint to create new looks, which have become an indicator of social and
economic change.
The design of interiors is very simple but made with attention to detail and intricacy. Types of interior
design include residential design, commercial design, hospitality design, healthcare design, universal
design, exhibition design, spatial branding, etc. The profession of Interior Design is relatively new,
constantly evolving, and often confusing to the public. It is an art form that is consistently changing
and evolving. Not only is it an art, but it also relies on research from many fields to provide a well-
trained designer's understanding of how people are influenced by their environments.

THE INTERIOR DESIGN PROCESS REVEALED
We are often asked about how the design process works, from Should I pick a rug or a paint color
first? to How do you figure out if everything will look right together? What a great excuse to
provide a peek into Niche Interiors design process from the first client meeting to the completion
of a project. Read on to see our approach illustrated with one of our favorite projects in Pacific
Heights a small space thats big on style.
Step 1. Interview and Discovery Phase.
The first thing we need to know is who you are, how you live, and what you really desire for your
living space. Our client survey form narrows in on these questions. A customized image book is
compiled using photos of a various interiors. The clients comments help us visually understand what
they are drawn to.

Inspiration Image for Pacific Heights Project
Pacific Heights Survey Answers: Our client, Ms. D, wrote that she wanted a glamorous space that
felt like her. She referenced the Hollywood Regency style and her love of red, black, white, and
pink. Ms. D wanted a more functional space that utilized the space efficiently.

Step 2. Measuring & Taking Photos
We measure the space and take photos of each room. The architectural details are taken into
consideration when creating the new design.

Living Room at the start of the project
Step 3. Floor Plans.
The foundation for a good design is an efficient furniture plan with appropriately scaled furniture.
Multiple floor plan options are provided to the client.

Step 4. Creation of Design Concept.
Let the fun begin! The color scheme and overall design concept is created.
Pacific Heights Design Statement: A glamorous and sophisticated space is created with feminine,
curved furniture, a mix of geometric patterns, and a generous dose of metallic. A gray, black and
white color scheme is accented with punches of fuchsia and apple green.

Step 5.Paint, Furniture & Fabric Selection.
With a clear design concept we start selecting options to present to the client.

Step 6. Ordering and Installation.
Niche Interiors places orders and coordinates any contract work that needs to be done before the
furniture is delivered. Walls are painted, light fixtures are installed, and drapes are hung. The project
is completed and finishing touches are added such as accessories and personal items.

WATER
CLOSET AND BATH

WATER CLOSET AND BATH
BATHROOMS
Bathrooms are a low-priority space for most people. In fact, its probably a most
neglected space. But think about it; you start your day peering into the mirror above
that boring old white ceramic sink. This is where you have that refreshing bath before
you start the day. and where you end it, tired and ready to fall apart. Its not too
difficult, or even too expensive, to add a dash of style and zing to your bathroom.

DESIGNING A BATHROOM
The first essential is to demarcate space for the basin, the WC and the shower area.
One-third of the area should be segregated for the shower, one-third for the WC and
one-third for the sink, with a bit left for the storage, says architech jayesh shah.
Plan your space so that the wash basin, the often-used part of the bathroom, comes
first, the WC next, & the shower area, the wettest one, the last. Architect Rajiv Saini
recommends cordoning off the shower area using a glass cubicle. shower curtain,
sliding aluminium and glass doors, or a much in-vogue toughened glasse on patch
fitting, where no frame is used ,are some option
The next step. plan the colour scheme. in case you have a smallbathroom, go in
for neutral or soft colours. with strongscolours, it may end up looking claustrophobic.
but if your bathroom is of a generous size, you have the entire spectrum of the
colourpalate to choose from while deciding the tiles and flooring keep your preferences
in mind.
Planning the storage is of equal importance. you can use certain nooks or corners
to design the storage, advises shah. The more traditional way of doing it is to create
storage under the basin. make sure that all the clutter the toiletries and the heater,
AN INTERIOR DECORATION OF RESIDENTIAL BUNGLOW
G.P. SAKOLI 20
specially, is out of sight behind a closed storage is case there is a space saini advocates
putting in a small closet, with two hangers for your night clothes which can look very
tacky if left outside.
While thinking about the idea space for each item, ask a few relevant questions : do
you bath or shower? What products do you used every day? are the towels within easy
reach? Make sure that the flooring is made of anti-skid material like rough tiles,
especially if there are kids and older people in the house. While designing the
bathroom, remember to provide a slope on one side, where the water can drain out.
Also make sure there is enough light. You could open up the window a bit so that
natural light enter.
A bathroom is a room for personal hygiene, generally containing a bathtub or a shower,
and possibly also a bidet. In North America and some other regions, it
characteristically contains a toilet and a sink; hence in North American English the
word "bathroom" is commonly used to mean any room containing a toilet, even a
public toilet (although in the United States this is more commonly called a restroom).
In other countries, including the UK, Australia, France and Japan, homes may have a
separate
ACCESSORIES
The accessories and fittings available for the bathroom are as diverse as your
budget. There are practical once and state-of-art options, which may not be so practical,
but look good.
The market is choke-a-block with minimalistic and contemporary fitting like shower,
taps shower cubicles. There are stylish chrome-plated fitting, powder-coated ones.
While choosing the do not get stuck with the clichd old ceramic version. There are
so many material available like the handmade ceramic tiles ,which could be the
cheapest option ,there are tiles in natural stone, piazza and glass mosaic tiles, which
AN INTERIOR DECORATION OF RESIDENTIAL BUNGLOW

give the bathroom a certain luminescence. If you want a very formal looking bathroom,
you could also opt for Italian marble for the walls.
The budget and yours tastes, you can get extravagant, and install a bathtub a Jacuzzi, a
spa, or all three. Before you start out, survey the market.
