A Shorted Xbox power supply brought

It was brought to my shop for repair. It was an electronic repair guy that ha some
ifficulties repairing this power supply.
!he reason it was shorte, is as you can see in the information pro"ie that it runs on
110 #$ "olts but it was use on 220 #$ "olts. %e are about to see the result of this
power supply abuse. &et us begin.
!here are four screws here to ta'e out in orer to me to see what insie this power
supply. Just use a fine hea flat screw ri"er to ta'e the plastic pieces out an the screws
will be e(pose.
!oo' the four screws out an here is what I saw.

I was so careful when I opene the case because I 'new there was power cable that
pro"ies the fan with ) "olts *$. Just be careful not to brea' that cable an amage the
power soc'et that connecte to it.
I too' the boar out an loo'e to the other sie for any ba or col solering +oint, I
saw none but I saw that someone was wor'ing on it. ,ere is the proof.
!he pins of the brige rectifier were e solere an teste. &et us see why.
!he repair guy e solere an teste the brige rectifier because he thought the fuse
was shorte for some reason. %hen I chec'e the fuse, it was intact but strange thing
happene to it. !a'e a loo'
!he boar was bro'en. I saw the same mar's on the sie of the power supply case.
!here is only one e(planation to that. !he technician trie to force the case open without
ta'ing the screws out. !hat was really interesting to see.
-o the fuse was intact, the in rush current "aristor was intact, what is the problem in this
power supply. &oo' what I foun.
!here are two )/0uf0200 1olts that were bulge. !he +uice of these capacitors was
insie the power supply an it ha to be cleane. Be careful" da#ger.
!his is poison2 you ha"e to be careful when ealing with this 'in of spills. I wore
protecti"e glo"es to o this 'in of cleaning. #nyway, after the cleaning an the
replacing of these capacitors, the power supply was ali"e again. Missio# acco$plished.
