ALCS is commissioned in Unit-6 with certain modifications. This is as per the
requirements of OS (Blr WR). Some features of ALCS are given below:-
- The supply to the drive motors is given from 2 sources, for SAPH-A it is from emergency switchgear module No 3C and the second source is from BACDB-B/2G However at present only the source from emergency switchgear is charged. Similarly for SAPH-B the source from emergency switchgear is from module 3D.
- There are 4 Local Control Panels (LCPs) located at boiler 20 mt elevation near the ALCS. Two for SAPH-A, and two for SAPH-B All have individual isolating breakers mounted.
- There are 3 lamps on the LCPs, Retracting, Advancing and Power Supply Healthy. The LCP also has two push buttons Advance and Retract.
- Pressing the Advance push button will advance the ALCS and correspondingly Advancing lamp on the LCP will glow, while pressing the Retract push button will retract the ALCS and correspondingly Retracting lamp will glow.
- Two nos limit switches are also mounted on the ALCS which will automatically cut-off the motor when they are actuated. When retracting, the upper limit switch will cut-off the motor when it is actuated and while advancing the lower limit switch will cut-off the motor when actuated.
- With MFT the retract action of ALCS will be initiated automatically till the upper limit switch is engaged. However advancing can be done only through the Advance push button.
- Mechanical stoppers have been provided on the shaft to avoid over travel in both the directions in case the limit switches fail.
Action to be taken by the UCB staff:
1) In case of boiler trip, check locally to see if the ALCS has retracted. 2) In case ALCS has not retracted, Please check the Power Supply Healthy lamp. ALCS may be tried for retraction by pressing the Retract push button. If problem still persist, maintenance (Rotary Parts Group) may to be informed. (With the motor in coupled condition, ALCS cannot be advanced/retracted manually) 3) After the unit has come on bar, ALCS has to be advanced through the Advance push button mounted on the LCP. 4) Operator should check if the Power Supply Healthy lamp is glowing or not at least once in a shift.
