The document outlines a four step methodology for designing a hose reel fire suppression system that complies with relevant building and fire safety standards. Step one involves surveying the building. Step two covers pumping arrangements and sizing to ensure adequate water pressure and flow. Step three addresses placement of hose reel outlets every 30 meters. Step four is producing and presenting drawings of the designed system.

The Design Standards hose reel system are in compliance to
(1) BS5306 Part 1 Fire Extinguishing Installation Equipment on Premise (2) Uniform Building By Laws (UBBL) 1984 (3) The requirement of Malaysian Fire Services and Rescue Department There are four steps in the System Design Methodology STEP ONE : BUILDING SURVEY Hose reel system design is relatively simple for this development. A set of hose reel pump and tank is located at basement level for space saving. The hose reel tank is of capacity 9100 litres. STEP TWO: PUMPING ARRANGEMENT & SIZING The pump design flow rate and pressure shall delivery to the furthest and highest hose reel at a minimum flow rate of 30 litres per minute, at a minimum pressure of ----- at any one time shall a minimum operation of 4 hose reels be operating at the same time, then the pump shall be fixed for a minimum flow rate of 120 litres per minute at the pressure requirements stated above. STEP THREE: HOSE REEL OUTLETS A hose reel shall be provided at an interval of 30 meters clear radius coverage. It is recommended to place the hose reels near exit points such as fire escape staircases, fire escape doors or emergency exits, etc. This is to enable a convenient and easy access of the hose reel to the public for the purpose of initial fire fighting while waiting for the arrival of the fire brigade. STEP FOUR: DRAWING PRODUCTION AND PRESENTATION Similar procedures shall be adopted as per section mentioned above for automatic sprinkler system
