Anuradha

Anuradha is taken as the seventeenth nakshatra among the 27 nakshatras which are
considered important in Vedic Jyotish for making calculations from horoscopes based
on Vedic Jyotish. The word Anuradha literally translates into Another Radha and
some Vedic astrologers relate the meaning of this word to success and good luck. The
main symbol of this nakshatra is a Staff which is a Dand carried by powerful sages
according to Vedic mythology. This Dand carried by the sages used to be very powerful
and was used by them for their own protection and to punish the ones who attacked
them or who deserved punishment. In a way it was used by them to keep the things
around them in balance. The sages almost never used this staff for the purpose of
destruction or to gain any selfish means and they used it very wisely and only where
it was required to be used. This symbol of Staff thus associates Anuradha with power,
protection and wisdom and accordingly these qualities are relayed through this
nakshatra combined with the qualities like success and good luck signified by the
meaning of the name of this nakshatra. Some Vedic astrologers associate the symbol of
Lotus to this nakshatra as an alternate symbol and as Lotus is considered as a very
auspicious flower in Vedic mythology and it is considered as the Aasan or Seat of
goddess Saraswati who is the goddess of all kinds of learning in the universe, therefore
this nakshatra is also associated with qualities like learning, auspiciousness,
enlightenment and wisdom. Hence Anuradha is considered as an auspicious nakshatra
by many Vedic astrologers as it is associated with many good qualities.
Vedic Jyotish assigns Mitra, one of the twelve Adityas or Solar
deities as the ruling deity of this nakshatra and accordingly many qualities of Mitra
are relayed through this nakshatra. The word Mitra translates into Friend and
accordingly the qualities like friendliness, cordiality, helpfulness and working together
with others to achieve success are associated with Mitra and all of these qualities find
expression through this nakshatra. Mitra promotes friendship on all levels and stages
of life and hence Anuradha can be seen as a nakshatra which promotes friendship and
universal brotherhood and accordingly the natives under the strong influence of this
nakshatra are seen making many friends throughout their lives and such natives
achieve success with the help of these friends and as a result of group work. Some Vedic
astrologers assign goddess Saraswati as another ruling deity of Anuradha and this

is Tamasic and this classification of Gun is again explained on the basis of association
of this nakshatra with Saturn and Mars. Many astrologers consider Anuradha as Dev
in Gan and this classification is explained on the basis of soft and tender nature of this
nakshatra as well as promotion of friendship and universal brotherhood by this
nakshatra which are considered as godly qualities in Indian astrology. The element of
Fire is associated with this nakshatra and this classification is explained on the basis
of association of this nakshatra with Mars which is a considered as a fiery planet in
Vedic Jyotish.
