1 Job Duties: This position is located in the Pressure Vessel Systems (PVS) Group (Sec. 83). The
PV/S Engineer is directly responsible for engineering analysis of new and existing pressure
systems to ensure system safety and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and NASA
requirements. This includes analysis of pressure vessels, piping, components, system operating
procedures, inspection results, and operating conditions, as well as development of system risk
assessments. The engineer will use this analysis to develop and publish PV/S Certification
Packages in compliance with the PV/S Certification Plan, as well as provide engineering
consultation and support for GSFC institutional and ground-based systems. Candidate will work
closely with the PV/S Lead Engineer and PV/S Quality Engineer. Candidate may direct
inspection of PVS systems for verification at Goddard Space Flight Center. The incumbent will
implement and execute plans, procedures, directives, and assignments to: Develop and publish
PV/S Certification Packages; Develop and prepare engineering and technical reports; Develop
and implement plans, inspection and test procedures, and processes for ground-based PV/S;
Provide engineering direction for required inspections, tests and NDT of pressure vessels and
systems; Prepare In-service Inspection (ISI) procedures; Generate and track requirements for
NASA and GSFC inspections of pressure vessels and systems; Assist in the generation of
requirements for the procurement of new Pressure Vessels and Systems; and Execute plans to
provide engineering consultation services to GSFC laboratory owners and operators for their
pressure systems. The successful candidate may be cross-utilized and cross-trained to support all
groups within PVS/LDE Department in order to develop mutually useful skills.

Qualifications: Must possess Bachelors of Science in Engineering or related degree with a
minimum of 8 years experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including a
minimum of 6 years working with and analyzing pressure vessels and pressurized systems.
Highly desired experience includes: working knowledge of ASME/ANSI Pressure Vessel and
Pressure Piping Codes; Performing risk assessments; and supporting the maintenance of Pressure
Vessel systems. The candidate must demonstrate excellent documentation and organizational
skills to maintain critical records, and perform document reviews. Successful candidate must
possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to perform technical presentations.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Excel is required. Working Knowledge of:
NASA-STD-8719.17, NASA Requirements for Ground-Based Pressure Vessels and Pressurized
Systems (PVS); NPD 8710.5, Policy for Pressure Vessels and Pressurized Systems, ASME
"Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code; and ASME B31 series Piping Codes is highly desirable.
Familiarity with nondestructive testing methods (visual, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid
penetrant) is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements: Bending, field of vision, lifting,
medium work normal move about freely in a laboratory
setting. Requires wearing Personal Protective equipment,
working with computers/CRTs, working with data, working
with machine operations, working with numbers/figures,
working with small parts. This job will require a moderate
amount of walking, sitting, standing, stooping and bending.
Climbing will be minimal. Lifting may be required, but not
more than 35 pounds.


1 Job Duties: The Lead Tech must have a hands-on attitude, possess excellent technical writing
skills, possess strong analytical skills and have the ability to interface with a wide variety of
technical personnel. Individual must have 10 years demonstrated Leadership capabilities.
He/she must have the ability to handle multiple tasks and adhere to strict time schedules;
support internal and external customers with attention to detail; manage and direct work flow
and work assignments of maintenance staff; schedule maintenance activities utilizing available
maintenance resources and maintenance personnel; be current in applicable maintenance best
practices and methods; provide current work status on a daily basis to department management;
provide technical direction when needed and monitor work of assigned crew members. The
lead tech must assure compliance with appropriate health and safety practices, methods and
procedures in accordance with federal, state and local codes, regulations and requirements;
must be able to create, assign and track work orders in the Maximo work order system
accurately and completely; review job plans for accuracy and applicability, making
recommendations as necessary; ensure all personnel assigned to maintenance activities have
daily assignments and new assignments when work is completed. Should have excellent
oral/aural and written communication skills and have the ability to communicate with crew,
management and customers in both written and oral formats. The successful candidate may be
cross-utilized and cross-trained to support all groups within the facilities management
department in order to develop mutually useful skills.

Qualifications: minimum of 15 years of experience in commercial and industrial maintenance
as it applies to the NASA Environmental Test, Integration and Space Simulation Complex at
Goddard Space Flight Center. Individual must have worked in a Supervisory/Managerial
position. Experience with coordinating outside contractors and/or subcontractors as necessary;
coordinating and tracking the procurement of materials needed to support the maintenance
function; inspect work in progress and completed work for quality assurance; assist technicians
and engineers in planning and estimating work tasks, packages and proposals. Ability to work
closely with facility engineering staff in defining solutions, troubleshooting system/equipment
problems and resolving problems related to facility maintenance and project tasks; ability to
plan schedule and facilitate meetings as needed to communicate with maintenance staff,
management or customers; assist or assume leadership role in monthly safety meeting and
provide shop related safety topic for each meeting or table maintenance lessons learned; ability
to work overtime with short or no notice and travel to support maintenance and project
requirements; knowledge of simple machine shop tools such as band saws, grinders and drill
presses is required. Experience working with assembly and detailed drawings is essential.
Candidate must be capable of passing applicable physical examinations and successfully
completing the following training (and other required training): Electro-static discharge, hazard
communication/waste generator, clean room operations, Oxygen Hazards/Cryogenic Liquids,
Laser safety, and personal protective equipment. Must also have the ability to interface
effectively with co-workers and NASA personnel. Successful candidate must possess excellent
communication and interpersonal skills to perform technical presentations.
