EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Honda Motors Pakistan is a joint venture of Shirazi Family Pakistan and Honda
Motors Japan Ltd. This venture was signed in 1992 and Car manufacturing started
in 1994.
Honda is producing Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, Honda CR-Z, Honda Civic and
Honda City in Pakistan.
Honda in very caring company for its employees and has secured loyalty of its
staff through different best HR practices.
Quality Management System of Honda is unique in its sense as it has its own
standards of quality and emphasizing built in quality within the manufacturing
processes.

COMPANY INTRODUCTION:
Honda Atlas Cars Pakistan Limited is a joint venture between Honda Motor
Company Limited Japan, and the Atlas Group of Companies, Pakistan.

The company was incorporated on November 04, 1992 and joint venture
agreement was signed on August 05, 1993. The ground breaking ceremony was
held on April 17, 1993 and within a record time of 11 months, construction and
erection of machinery was completed. The first car rolled off the assembly line on
May 26, 1994. Official inauguration was done by then President of Pakistan,
Sardar Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari. Mr.Kawamoto, President of Honda Motor
Company Limited Japan was also present to grace the occasion. The company is
listed in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad Stock Exchanges.

On July 14, 1994, car bookings started at six dealerships in Karachi, Lahore, and
Islamabad. Since then the Dealerships network has expanded and now the
company has Twenty One 3S (Sales, Service and Spare Parts), Eighteen 2S (Service
and Spare Parts) and Five 1S (Spare Parts) authorized dealerships network in all
major cities of Pakistan.
Since the commencement of production in 1994, the company has produced and
sold more than 200,000 cars till July 12, 2012.
All dealerships are constructed in accordance with the standards defined by
Honda World over.

Percentage of local parts conforms to the government's policy. Local vendors are
continuously patronized to develop parts locally. The quality of local parts is
thoroughly checked to meet stringent international standards.
It is the constant endeavor of Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited to achieve No .1
Customer satisfaction. Honda Atlas Cars (Pakistan) Limited is committed to meet
customer expectations, and to provide good value for money.

Currently, They are offering Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, Honda CR-Z, Honda Civic
(four models) and Honda City (four models) in wide range of colors with advanced
technological features.

VISIT OBJECTIVES:
Our visit objectives were quite obvious pertaining to our academia i.e. to see the
best practices of Human Resource Management and Quality Management
System.
KEY PROCESSES:
Following is the brief outlook of Car Manufacturing Processes being carried out at
Honda Plant,
INVENTORY:
Inventory department is the raw material custodian where all body parts received
from the different vendors are stored as per shelf life for daily as well as future
car manufacturing process.
WELDING / PRESS SHOP:
Welding is the first step towards car manufacturing where huge sheet of Steel,
Aluminum are cut, drawn and molded into car body parts.
BODY SHOP:
Then these parts are welded together to form a complete car chassis.
PAINT SHOP:
The car chassis is first cleaned and then degreased before painting. Then a layer
of zinc phosphate is coated on body before painting. After that a series of four
painting layers are painted on car body to keep it environmentally vibrant.

In car assembly process, the different components are joined together to form a
complete car like, electrical / electronics, car seats, and steering etc.

FINAL ASSEMBLY:
Final Assembly is the area where car adopts its final shape. Here car engine, axle,
transmission etc. are assembled together and make ready for first car trial run.
After that the car is sent to washing unit where complete washing of car takes
place. Finally the car is rolled out as a final product.
KEY FEATURES OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT:
Honda has sought the loyalty of its employee through caring culture. During our
visit we were surprised to see everybody in single colored Uniform i.e. in White
color from Plant Head to an ordinary worker. Mess facility was common where
GM and all lower staff meals in under single roof.
Honda celebrates long service awards for its employees to make them feel pride
for being part of company. Family days for employees are observed to secure the
loyalty of families of employees.
In house planned Cricket, Football tournament are key essence of employee
involvement in the company
KEY FEATURES OF THE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
Honda has established state of the art Quality Management System to provide
stringent and consistent QUALITY to its customers.
Quality Trend Analysis are heart of this system making every on floor aware of its
quality trends.

Critical problem identification during the processes is displayed in each
department. Pictorial work instructions and organizational charts are hanging in
each department for making responsibility and authority clear to the employees.
Honda is assuring the built in quality within the manufacturing processes through
self-inspection of operator.
Seven Quality tools application can be seen in every department for deeper
analysis.
5S implementation and EHS system are at its peak throughout the plant.
