AQUA TECHNICIAN (Farmer II)
The Aqua Technician works under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Farm Manager and the Farm Manager to carry out directives associated with the daily functions of the farm and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of equipment throughout the facility. Aqua Technician conducts work associated with the production of N.E.W. and the daily operation of the fish house. This employee shall provide Selovita and Florida Urban Organics the following services and/or duties:
Manage the exchange of water in aquaculture facility Balance flow in aquaculture system Handle the maintenance and upkeep of equipment Process NEW and handles deliveries of NEW Responsible for the facilities ground maintenance Conduct system disinfections Occasionally substitutes for Farmer I Assist with harvests Work on specialty projects Perform irrigation and plumbing repairs and installation Perform water testing Assist with irrigation measures Execute pest control strategies Work rotating weekends
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Aqua Technician (Farmer II) position works as a part of the production team and executes farm directives. The employee in this position must possess advanced mechanical, plumbing, and handyman skills. A major portion of the day to day operations are performed by Farmer II. The employee who works in the Farmer II position must be hardworking, dedicated, and dependable. By the nature of the position, Farmer II must be able to handle extreme working conditions associated with prolonged sun exposure, physical labor, and working in and around water. Those in this position must receive direction well and carry out farm directives thoroughly. Managing staff must have confidence that work orders received and performed by those in the Farmer II position will be accomplished correctly. Attention to detail is a skill that must be mastered by those in this position as observations obtained by performing farm directives act as the platform for success. Farmer II are responsible for translating observations and relevant information associated with the production directives to managing personal with specific attention on processes related to the development of N.E.W. Farmer II must record data and complete daily checklists. Responsibilities vary from day to day and include tasks associated with all areas of
the company including the harvesting of produce. Farmer II must possess strong communication skills and be fluent in English.
The overall success of the farms business is quality control and food safety. Farmer II will quickly learn and perform harvest standards and the farms standard operating procedures. The will be required to carry out company policy and obey compliance measures. Additionally, the employee will provide maintenance for the facility, ensuring all equipment is kept in good operating condition including but not limited to irrigation equipment, aquaculture equipment, harvest equipment, and grounds equipment. The employee may often be required to procure local resources for use on the farm as needed. As a consequent the employee must maintain a valid drivers license and have access to an automobile. The overall appearance and cleanliness of the facility and grounds maintenance is a requirement for the employee in this positon.
The right person for this position is dedicated, dependable, detail-oriented, reliable and flexible. Great communication and self-motivation are imperative as is a genuine interest in growing wholesome, organic food on a small sustainable farm. The employee must be proficient with power tools and generally handy Additionally, the position requires someone who understands the intricacies and challenges associated with a startup business, never losing sight that this is an operation that must be economically independent in order to achieve its mission of a being a sustainable food system. Only through the production teams collective efforts can the farm become economic viable.
Employee accepts and agrees to such employment, and agrees to be subject to the general supervision, advice and direction of the Assistant Farm Manager and Farm Manager. Employee also agrees to perform (i) the duties outlined in the description and other duties as are customarily performed by an employee in a similar position, and (ii) such other and unrelated services and duties as may be assigned to employee from time to time by Selovita as long as they do not conflict with the implementation of the employees primary responsibilities. Employee agrees to be subject to Selovitas policies outlined in the company handbook and agrees to adhere to the Non-Disclosure Agreement.
