American Literature I:
The Beginnings, American Renaissance, Trancendentalism and Romanticism
Course Objectives:
To develop an understanding and appreciation for American Literature from the
colonial time until Romanticism. Important authors of this period such as Jonathan
Edwards, David Thoreau, Ralph Aldo Emerson, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne,
Hermann Melville, Walt Whitman, Emily Dickson will be read, discussed and analyzed.
Course Requirements:
Regular attendance and participation in class discussion (10%)
Writing papers (20%)
Oral presentation (40%)
Writen evaluation (30%)
