Assessment
as learning
Step 1. Rubric to assess class notes
The teacher
asks the
students to self-
assess their
classnotes with
the help of this
rubric.
Step 1. Rubric to assess class notes
This indeed is
assessment for
learning,
because
students are
given the criteria
to improve their
class notes.
Step 1. Rubric to assess class notes
This indeed is
self assessment,
because students
have to assess
their own work.
Step 1. Rubric to assess class notes

But this cannot be considered
assessment as learning, because
students have not participated in
elaborating the criteria of the rubric!!!

What to do to
transform this
assessment task into
assessment as
learning???
Step 2. Engaging students
At the beginnig of your class notes there is a
table of contents with the units, sections and
page number where they can be found.
All pages of your class notes have
margins of right size.

Provide learners with the 10
criteria of assessment, and tell
them to put them in order of
importance.

Step 2. Engaging students
At the beginnig of your class notes there is a
table of contents with the units, sections and
page number where they can be found.
All pages of your class notes have
margins of right size.

Ask them to remove at least
one criteria and write another
one of their own. They can do
this up to three times.

Step 2. Engaging students
At the beginnig of your class notes there is a
table of contents with the units, sections and
page number where they can be found.
All pages of your class notes have
margins of right size.

Once in order, tell them that the
top two items will score up to 5
marks, the second two up to 4
marks, until the last two which
will score up to 1 mark.

Step 2. Engaging students
At the beginnig of your class notes there is a
table of contents with the units, sections and
page number where they can be found.
All pages of your class notes have
margins of right size.

Make them share their new
rubric with other partners. They
have to reach an agreement in
their group of 4.

Step 2. Engaging students
At the beginnig of your class notes there is a
table of contents with the units, sections and
page number where they can be found.
All pages of your class notes have
margins of right size.

You can now initiate a
discussion in the whole class.
All the groups have to reach an
agreement for a shared rubric of
the whole class!!!

At the end of the
process, your
learners may feel
like this!
