Exodus House

We introduced Scarlet in our last newsletter; she has quickly become a part of our family and danced in to our
hearts. She doesnt like for us to take her picture and we have to surprise her or she covers her face as in the
picture below. Part of our work with the family is lling in for parents who are otherwise absent at school
events. Our prayer is that over time, with encouragement, the mother will begin to assume her roll and not
miss important events she can never get back. In Peru, the Department of Education requires all schools to
teach typical dances passed down from generation to generation. The schools comply to this requirement by
having dance competitions between grades and classes. June was a busy month for us as we accompanied
Scarlet, Dariana, and Williams to their schools dance competitions. Scarlets class won rst place! It is a blessing
to be a part of their lives and we continue to pray the Lord will transform their families.

Josep is in my Sunday School class and every Saturday we visit his home. We know
his grandmother and grandfather and we have met his uncles and aunts; we have even met
his teacher at school. His mother is in jail and we carry him to see her once a month and
counsel her about how to have relationship with him while sharing the gospel.
We also know something else about Josep. Did you know children believe lies from
the enemy? At a very young age, the enemy begins to sow doubt to try and destroy their
belief in God. Josep has believed many lies; like when we rst met him, he said he no
longer believed in God and no one cared about him. Slowly, we began confronting those
lies with Gods truth. For almost three months, we have done everything we could just to
make him smile and last Sunday at church, he smiled on his own.
Deep down Joseps desire was for someone to notice him. He wanted to be known.
What Josep didn't realize is someone much greater than us formed him and knew him. We
have had the great honor of making Jesus known to Josep. As Josep realizes Jesus knows
him, he realizes being known by God is enough!

Melissa Lawrence, who served for a year as an intern with
Exodus House, returned to visit and serve with us for three weeks
in June! She did fun crafts with the kids as well as led music in
Sunday School, helped out with homework, and shared with the
youth on Saturday evenings. She made visits with us, helped us
with the daily cleaning and serving at Exodus House, and was a
blessing!
