Question 1: [total of 10 marks]
The manufacturer of Shabby chairs has found that when 20 chairs are produced per day, the average cost is $105, and the
marginal cost is $100.
1a) Based on this information, find the equation of the tangent line to the graph of the cost function, when 20 chairs are
produced. Use the symbol c for total cost, and q for the total number of chairs produced.
Write your answer in the form y mx n = + , or in this case in the form c mq n = + [8 marks]

Question 3: [18 marks]
An athlete wishes to maintain a certain level of Calcium and Vitamin C in his body. He obtains these nutrients from drinking
milk or orange juice. A glass of milk provides 20 units of Calcium and 5 units of vitamin C. A glass of orange juice provides
5 units of Calcium and 10 units of vitamin C. He requires at least 100 units of Calcium and 60 units of Vitamin C each day.
He is given free Vitamin C tablets, 50 units per day, to supplement his daily intake, and the cost of a glass of milk is 30 cents
per glass, while orange juice costs 20 cents per glass.
Let x be the number of glasses of milk and y be the number of glasses of orange juice he drinks per day.
What is the minimum amount of money he must spend in order to maintain his daily intake of at least 100 units of Calcium
and 60 units of Vitamin C? How many glasses of milk and how many glasses of orange juice will result in this minimum cost
per day?
