Scope of Pharmacognosy | Dr. Mussadiq Latif PHARMACOGNOSY Pharmacognosy is defined as the study of medicines obtained from natural sources; including, plants, animals and minerals !he "merican Society of Pharmacognosy has defined Pharmacognosy as the study of the physical, chemical, biochemical and biological properties of drugs, drug substances or potential drugs or drug substances of natural origin as #ell as the search for ne# drugs from natural sources.$ SCOPE $APPLICATIONS% OF PHARMACOGNOSY Pharmacognosy has %ast applications in the Pharmaceutical &ndustry and therapeutics.
