Activity room
At Crossroads we are very excited about our Activity
Centre and Sensory Room and feel it is of great
benefit to our young clients. It gives the children new
experiences, opportunities to make new friendships
and enjoy many fun activities. The centre is managed
by Alison and Donna who both work closely with our
Carers in making sure the children have an enjoyable
time whilst here. The centre is proving very popular
with our existing clients where they enjoy activities such
as cookery, arts & crafts, soft play area, board games,
computer games, music, DVDs and lots of messy fun to!
In addition to this we have a secure outdoor play area

Project events
Across Northern Ireland
there are thousands of
lonely elderly people
who do not have contact
with anyone week after
week. This lack of social
interaction can be detrimental to an elderly persons
health and it can speed up the deterioration in a
persons mental and physical wellbeing.
Crossroads In Your Prime Project aims to tackle this
issue by reaching, empowering and connecting older
people through interaction with each other. The project
is facilitated by volunteers who give up their some
of their spare time to help the elderly by befriending
which involves something as little as visiting an elderly
person in their local area once a week for a cuppa and
a chat. Volunteers also help us with our telephone
service, events, intergenerational activities and
emergency transport.
We are calling for both volunteers who have some
spare time and elderly people who feel lonely to come
forward and make contact with us.
Crossroads Young
Carers Project was
established in 1994 and
it offers these young
people services that
include social outings,
befriending, practical help and respite care.
Young Carers are children and young people under the
age of 23, whose life is affected by providing significant
care, assistance or support to a sick or disabled
relative at home.
The types of illnesses and disabilities experienced by
those cared for by the young people include mental
or physical disabilities, mental health problems,
alcoholism and physical illnesses. Young carers
perform tasks and undertake responsibilities most
of us would not face until adulthood this can include
looking after siblings, shopping, doing housework,
cooking, attending to medication or physical care tasks
and emotional support.

A LONELY WORLD
A lonely world this would be
If we had no one who was caring
To visit and tend to
The infirm and the despairing
A lonely world this would be
If no carers came in
And gave us moral support
To take our knocks on the chin
A lonely world this would be
If we hadnt a friend
Who would knock on our door
And the hand of friendship extend
A lonely world this would be
Without the Crossroad lassies supreme
To fit compression socks
And coat swollen legs with cream
A lonely world this would be
Make sure youre well dressed
Make sure youve got your breakfast
And dont feel ill or depressed
A lonely world this would be
Raise your glasses, say Cheers!
Wish them many Happy Christmases
And peaceful prosperous New Years
