I am excited to welcome you and your child to Algebra at Whitthorne Middle School. 8 th grade is a critical time to develop the math skills that students will need in high school and in their future. I am here to hel p your son or daughter develop a sound foundation in math knowledge and application.
As you may know, Tennessee has adopted new school learning standards, called the Common Core Standards. In math, the standards call for a deep understanding of important math concepts. We will study how math can apply in the real world. Algebra students will take a cumulative end of course test.
I look forward to getting to know my students and seeing their achievements this year. Please feel free to contact me. I welcome any feedback that will assist me in teaching your son or daughter. I will regularly post the progress of your son or daughter on Whitthornes Parent Portal. I will also make periodic phone calls and emails to you to discuss achievement.
Please mark your calendar for Whitthornes Open House on August 12 th . I would enjoy meeting you in person. Thank you for the opportunity to have your child in my Algebra class this year.
Sincerely,
Rachael Edmonds Whitthorne Middle School redmonds@mauryk12.org 931-388-2558 x1334
