On-the-Job training is a part of college curicullum which aims to provide students hands on experience to an actual working evironment. As an Electronics Engineering Student who prefers to take the communications field, PLDT seemed to be the number one company of my choice for it is the best, largest and most renown telecommunications company in the Philippines. I was very pleased that I was able to be a part of the PLDT OJT program.
As I enter PLDT I have with me my own goals and expectations. I aim to prepare myself for the actual working environment of actual people working in the field of communcations. I know PLDT will provide me a good feel of the actual working atmosphere and also skills set which Im sure will be very handy in my chosen field.
I was assigned in the Central Office/Main Distribution Frame/Outside Plant or CO/MDF/OP section and was picked to be the OJT buddy for Sir Romer R. Zabalerio, one of the Plant Combination Man, by Mr. Rocelino C. Abcejo, supervisor for CO/MDF/OP along with Mr. Virgilio E. Itliong.
Other trainees from my school and from other universities and colleges as well are also designated in the same section.
On my first day, Engr. Froilan T. Andalis, they call them froi for short , taught me essential Information about the equipments in the Main distribution frame room, how it operates and how it is a part of the network. He also gave me knowledge on the tapography used by PLDT and more information on PLDTs associates. These were broaden on the following days of my OJT.
The next day was spent outside the plant, we had some testing at the digitel facility in candelaria which looks almost like the Main distribution frame in lucena, only smaller. Here I saw a hint on how the equipments at the MDF lucena are setted. We also looked for a suitable distribution point for Peterpaul Corporation that day.
The same goes for for the following and the remainder of my OJT days, Servicing subscribers with no or slow internet connection problems. Usually problems can be solved at the Central Office by lock and unlock. Then, if problems still persist, the technician calls the subscribers for technical advise, and if this still dont work, the subscribers were needed to be attended. Usual problems at home are at the subscribers modem . Some only having to reconfigure their modems and some having their modems being replaced. Some problems only need the replacement of accesory parts like the cbk, spliiter and cords. And some with minor software wrong settings. Worse problems are those which in need of climbing posts for resplicing and sometimes respanning the whole connection from the distribution point to the subscibers home.
Mondays and Tuesdays are my supervisors day off of the week, I spent these days at the Main Distribution Frame room. Here, the supervisors are Sir Alex and Sir Jerry. Sir Patrick recently joined in. This is the place where main frames of the customers of PLDT is located and were manipulated. From the main frames in the room, each customers lines are connected to their respective node assignments. These are further connected towards the customers homes and offices through the cabinets, posts and distribution points.
Our main activity in the MDF includes testing specified customers line, checking up their internet speed, and jumpering new and transferred pairs of connection of ports and nodes to provide dial tone upon connection or repair and maintainace outside the plant.
Being at the Main distribution Frame room provides me better undersanding of how PLDT provide its services and how they deal with problems when it occurs. The cooperation of technicians and the people at the MDF is an exelent team work. It had made the job easier for one another.
In the end, training here at PLDT gave me a lot of knowledge, skills and experience which would be very helpful in my future career. It improved my practical experience related to my field of specialization and my confidence and ability to work in harmony with different people.
. PLDT also expand my point of view towards life of work. It helped me aqcuire proper values, perspective and attitude towards the future. It made me realize my objectives and the importance of my career. It also exposed me to current trends, technology and needs of an industry.
For these reasons, I want to extend my fullest gratitude and appreciation to the PLDT Quezon Customer Service Operations Zone and to all the people who keep it moving. You have given so much contribution for the development of the future engineers and professionals. Thank you and Godbless.
