PERSONNEL:

This is a little strange for me as Im used to
posting things like this for others but not
myself; however, if you're around next
Friday afternoon, please feel free to stop by
City Hall for coffee and cake.

Staff was busy this week setting up office
equipment, department equipment and
overall logistics for newly incoming Chief
Steve Stracek who starts on Monday,
August 4.

PATROL:

Patrol continues to be extremely busy with
all the current road construction happening
throughout the City. We are providing extra
patrol around these construction areas when
possible and also fielding complaints of
traffic congestion and traffic violations.

DETECTIVES:

Over the last week Detective Holman and
his K9 partner Raja have been busy assisting
other agencies in drug investigations. On
Tuesday of last week Holman and K9 Raja,
along with a Carlton County Sheriff's
Deputy, conducted an investigation that
resulted in the seizure of 14.4 g of
methamphetamines. A 31-year-old
Bemidji man was arrested; charges are
being handled by the Carlton County
Sheriff's Department.

On Thursday of last week Detectives
Berg and Holman observed an
individual not wearing her seatbelt and
initiated a traffic stop. During the
investigation on the traffic stop, K9
Raja was deployed and alerted on the
driver's purse. Located inside the purse
was methamphetamine. The driver, a
39-year-old Cloquet woman, was
arrested without incident and lodged
the Carlton County Law Enforcement
Center. The suspect was formally
charged with Controlled Substance in
the Fifth Degree, Driving While
Impaired, No Proof of Insurance,
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and
Failure to use a Seatbelt.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Recently Detective Randall took part
in Restorative Justice Training at the
Carlton County Transportation
Building. Restorative Justice is a
Cloquet Police Department
Weekly Newsletter
Cloquet Police Department Weekly Newsletter Page 2
program designed to engage victims, offenders, and
the community in repairing the harm caused by
crime so that we can build a safer and stronger
community.

COMMUNITY SERVICE:

This week the Department partnered with Cloquet
Community Memorial Hospital providing a first year
medical student the opportunity to ride along with
patrol. This is an annual program that we take part in
and look forward to. It gives the medical student
interested in practicing rural medicine a look at how
law enforcement interacts with the public and the
hospital in a more rural setting.
FINALLY:

This is my last Weekly Letter as Interim Police
Chief, I felt compelled to share something that was
given to me by former Chief Lamirande several
years back. I left it pinned to my office wall and it
seemed appropriate to share with my pending
retirement.

If you have any questions about the information
provided, feel free to contact me at the police
department.

Respectfully Submitted,

Terry Hill
Interim Chief of Police
