Mai n Func t i ons
Cellticks Cell Broadcast Center (CBC) is the fastest and most cost-
effective way to send messages to a large number of mobile phone
users. Delivering messages to the cells, rather than to each handset
separately, Cellticks CBC can instantly reach every subscriber on the
network without using extra bandwidth. Using SMS would not only
require considerable and expensive network resources, but would
also take hours or even days to achieve the same results.
Messages sent via Cellticks CBC can be dynamically scheduled. The
system utilizes a variety of existing broadcast channels. Each channel
can be configured to carry different messages to different coverage
areas.
Network operators have total control over the broadcast content.
They can assign airtime on specific channels for various informational
purposes.
Mobile phone users have the choice of tuning their handsets only to
channels that broadcast information they want, or turn them off
altogether.
The CBC message can be delivered over channels 1-999, except for
channel 50.
Celltick CBC designed for simultaneous delivery of messages in the
following cases:
Location-based promotions - Shopping centers can contact
users in their vicinity. Vendors can target busy areas, such as
airports and stadiums to promote special offers and publicize
attractions.
Segmented messages - Movie distributors can inform users
about films they are likely to enjoy such as an action movie for
youth or new children animation for young parents.
Emergency alerts - Celltick CBC can function as a powerful
public announcement service in times of emergency to inform,
for example, about approaching storms, traffic jams or floods.
Authorities can also use channels to inform people about
disruptive road congestion or hazardous weather conditions.
The system integrates encryption features which can be used
to safely send private and sensitive messages when needed.

CBC enables sending CBC messages to groups of cells belonging to
different BSCs. Thus, the destination can be an individual BSC or
multiple groups.
To perform this, a cell grouping functionality has been added to the
CBS client. When sending messages, both individual BSCs and groups
can be selected as destinations. Mixing is allowed. Even if the same
cells are included in multiple destinations, the message is sent only
once.
The SysAdmi n
The SysAdmin client is designed to create and broadcast text
messages. It allows you to:
Manage messages.
Schedule messages.
Manage the GSM Gateway components.
Message Management Modul e
The message management module is designed to:
Schedule new cell broadcast messages.
Determine the message repetition rate.
Cancel cell broadcast messages that are currently broadcast or are
waiting to be broadcast.
Updating the context of currently broadcasted messages.
Listing the live cell broadcast messages and their status (pending
or currently broadcast).
Listing the expired cell broadcast messages.
Syst em Admi ni st r at i on Modul e
The system management module is designed to:
Perform the day-to-day operational activities and
maintenance.
Set up the GSM Gateway.
6
Set up BSCs.
Create and manage cells (BTS).
Operate the cell loader service.
Test communication between the system and a BSC.
Cel l I nf o
The GSM standard includes the capability for a Cell Info service. This
service allows the operator to send Cell Broadcast messages directly
to the mobile device's screen.
The CellInfo messages are displayed in a dedicated location on the
cell phone screen as part of the phone background. Different handset
manufacturers set different display location on the screen.
The display is refreshed when the subscriber roams between cells.
The latest CellInfo message indicates the cell the subscriber is
currently in.
The power of CellInfo derives from its ability to provide local
information (on the cell level) to a large population, without taxing
the network resources.
Operators can use Cellticks Cell Info system to enable subscribers to
know their current location (Home Zone).
The Celltick system enables operators to define each cell's Cell Info
(Home Zone). The Home Zone is defined in the Celltick GSMGateway
connected to the operators network BSC.
Cell Info messages are broadcast over channel 50 a channel
dedicated to this purpose by the relevant standard.
Notes:
Some phones can display a limited amount of characters and with
these phones the messages may partially be displayed.
If the CBC message is broadcast over channel 50, then the home
zone will automatically be cleared of all BSCs.
When CBC is used to send to broadcast cell info (home zone)
messages, it sends the reset command in its initial process.
Channel 50 messages are displayed only when the phone changes
its cell reception.
