Youth Justice Board estate (all ages)(2,3)

(1) Includes all adult males (aged 21+) and males 18 and over held in sole or dual designated Young Offenders Institutes or adult male establishments.
(2) Although the YJB is only responsible for placing 10-17 year olds, some 18 year olds remain in the youth secure estate if they only have a short period of their sentence left to serve, to avoid disrupting their regimes.
(3) The total for the Youth Justice Board estate is included in both tables
(4) SCH and STC data are a snapshot of the under 18 population and may not reflect figures published by the YJB due to differences in extraction time. Data from April 2012 to March 2013
were finalised in the Youth Justice Statistics 2012/13. Data from June 2013 are provisional.
(5) Includes Youth Justice Board estate, Secure Children's Homes and Secure Training Centres
