Our Under Reamer is a textbook case of this principle in practice.
- It boasts a hydro mechanical system
which activates by pushing the
cutter block up a ramp in the Body
and out against an internal spring
and the wellbore formation.
- The unique positive spring-
loaded drive system ensures the
cutter blocks return fully into the
Body when pumping ceases.
- The tool consists of three cutter
blocks with an asymmetric cutting
structure profle which ensures
aggressive, stable cutting of
the wellbore with forward and
back reaming capability.

- The tool is ftted with a small
nozzle confguration which, upon
tool activation, provides a tell-tale
indicator on surface a pressure
drop on the gauges that the
cutter blocks are deploying.
- The pressure drop is seen at the
same time as the cutter blocks make
contact with the wellbore so an
increase in torque is also evident.
- Upon tool activation, fow bypasses
the ball for full through-fow to the bit.
Applications
- ECD concerns Lower the ECD
and allow higher pump rates in
extended-reach horizontal wells.
- Problematic formations unstable
shale formations/heavy oils.
- Difculty in getting slotted liners
to TD (no rotation/circulation).
- Restricted ID casings need to open
directly below casing shoe to allow
cementation of next casing string.
- Deepwater.
- Drilling extended intervals

Reamer allows for higher tensile
and torque load capacity.
- The Under Reamers deactivation
feature represents a new method
to shut the tool of and continue
to drill ahead. A secondary ball
is dropped from surface to close
of the actuation trigger and allow
full circulation to continue.
