HB Managment Installation and Configuration
HB Management Overview
HB is an optional load-balancing solution for RDP developed by SuccessEHS. Once correctly configured, users will access a user specific
HB "launch" page from a web browser that will open the SuccessEHS software in a load-balanced manner according to chosen settings.
In this example screenshot above, zz1000-01 is the Active Directory user. Clicking the "EHS tran3 6.1 Training" link would launch an RDP
session and the SuccessEHS software on a load-balanced group of servers set in HB Management.
HB Management is used to configure and maintain the HB load-balancer. HB Management is hosted on the database server but also has a
client side piece running on each Remote Desktop Server. HB Management syncs with Active Directory to get a list of users that will have
a launch page and to control what will be published with each user.
Accessing HB Management
To access HB Management you can enter the local IP address of your database server into a web browser. You'll be taken to your HB
launch page, the address will look like:
http://192.168.0.101:7777/pls/hb/hb_web.main
Manipulate that address like this:
http://192.168.0.101:7777/pls/hbman
Enter that into your browser (we recommend that you bookmark the HB Management page) and that will present you with a login that your
SuccessEHS SIE will provide you. If you do not have this please contact SuccessEHS support.
Configuring the LDAP Sync
HB Management syncs with your Active Directory. To do this we set up an LDAP Sync configuration in HB Management that consists of:
A domain user and password used to read your AD.
IP Address of your domain controller

An AD OU that will house your POC group. Your users will have an HB page (also known as a launch page) will be a member of
this POC AD group.
A place in your Active Directory (Users folder or an OU) that your POC users will reside.
The distinguished names of these objects in your Active Directory must be entered into HB Management. You can find the distinguished
name of an object as a domain admin in Active Directory Users and Computers by: View > check Advanced features > Right-click the
object > Properties > Attribute Editor tab > scroll to "distinguishedName", the Value is the distinguished name of the Active Directory
object.
To configure the LDAP Sync, follow these steps:
1. Create a normal domain user in your Active Directory and note the distinguished name and credentials of the user. It can be named
anything but we recommend making it recognizable like "HBSync" or "HB". This account will be used to access and read your AD.
2. Create an OU to house an AD group for your POC users. We recommend naming the OU "HB" and place it in the root of your
domain. Note the distinguished name of the OU.
3. Inside the OU you just created, create an AD security group named "POC".
4. Decide where you will be placing users in your AD that will have a launch page. Most clients keep them in the root Users folder. The
distinguished name of the Users folder is CN=users,dc=domainName,dc=com or net. Note the distinguished name if you choose
to place your poc users in an OU.
5. Place users that will have an HB launch page inside the Users container you chose to use.
6. Add those users that will have an HB launch page to the security "POC" group you created in step 3.
7. Log into HB Management.
8. Select LDAP/ADS
9. Select "Add New LDAP"
10. Enter the distinguished name of the HB Sync account from step 1 in the "HB Account" text box.
11. Enter the password and confirm it of the HB Sync account.
12. Enter the domain controller's IP address.
13. Enter the distinguished name of the HB OU you created in step 2.
14. Enter the distinguished name of the HB User Base you chose/created in step 4.
15. Click Save.
16. At the LDAP/ADS page, choose the "SyncNow" link of the LDAP sync you just created. You should get a listing of Active Directory
objects that were added to HB Management. If you get an error or a page timeout please double check your distinguished names. If
the error continues to occur please contact SuccessEHS support.
A completed configuration would look similar to this inside HB Management (example):
Installing HB on the RDS Server
1. Download the "hb_11g.zip" file from the SuccessEHS ftp. If you do not have access to the ftp site, contact SuccessEHS support.
2. Extract the two files to c:\hb on your SuccessEHS RDS server.
3. Open an administrator command prompt and enter:

cd c:\hb
lbmon.exe /install
net start lbmon

After installing HB on an RDS server, you should see the server(s) you installed it on in your HB Management Servers page. When a server
first appears it must be configured. To configure a server, select the "ID" number link (outlined with a green box in the screenshot below)
assigned to the server you want to configure.
In the screenshot above, the black boxes would list the hostname of the server(s) added to HB Management. The top server (ID 288) is an
old server that is no longer available. You have the option of clicking the red X on the left to delete it. Available servers (the bottom server,
ID 221) are servers that are communicating with HB which is indicated by a lower non-red "Last Refresh" time. At 120 seconds last refresh
time the server is considered to be unavailable and HB will no longer send users to it. Servers that are disabled have "Dis" listed in the
"Disabled" column. Newly added servers are disabled by default. Select the ID number link to configure a server or disable/enable it.
At the server configuration page you must configure the Published IP, Private IP, and Domain. The Published IP will be an IP that is used if
HB is accessed externally through the internet. If HB will never be accessed externally and will only be used on your local network, it is
okay to just use the RDS server's local IP for both Published and Private IP. If the server is not a member of a domain, you can leave that
box blank.
